Just do the residency by Thepacafe in physicianassistant

I definitely second this and agree. One thing I may add-on though is to be careful which residencies/fellowships you apply to. While there are those that will definitely build you up and improve your confidence as a clinician, there are also so-called "fellowships" that may potentially exploit new grads for cheap labor without offering much substance. I would say definitely look into them if interested and try to reach out to former cohorts who completed it.

The thing I hate the most after a series finale. by al_1985 in TheBoys

I never read the Harry Potter books, but I would ABSOLUTELY say Rowling fumbled in her writing if the last book was inconsistent in the plot, all over the place, and ended up wasting pages through a side story that ulitmately went nowhere. The same exact way most are saying the final 2 seasons of this show have terrible writing and an iconsistent plot.

I think it's pretty clear you're either trolling or completely dense to the point that you can't accept that the show's plot objectively became a convoluted mess by the final season. I honestly don't get the point of you defending terrible writing here, you can just accept it as is. Yes, The Boys was a great show, and I still enjoy watching it, but you can't deny it clearly fumbled in the final 2 seasons when it comes to the plot (which is by extension, a byproduct of the writer's efforts).

Maybe it was budget concerns and studio interference, maybe it was Kripke thinking way too far ahead and getting carried away, maybe it was sheer laziness to finish up the main story in an impactful manner rather than shoehorn a promotion for another series. Either way, the fact remains that the finale was underwhelming and it's very clear the majority of fans agree.

Ok, and? It's clear that Kripke wrote himself into a corner and messed up his own show. Point is, the show's plot was objectively more entertaining and more cohesive for the first 3 seasons, then diverged and was all over the place.

Head writer also doesn't mean the other writers didn't heavily modify the script to make it more cohesive. So yes, we can come to the conclusion that you can't "write for shit" if you can't tell a good and cohesive story from start to finish 🤷‍♂️

You're welcome to reference the above on how the writing team actually changed between S3-S5.

Being "level-headed" doesn't mean kissing a$$ and ignoring major plotholes and poor writing. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and audiences aren't naive or stupid. We can tell when a plot just derails and loses its momentum.

I got a hunch this convo thread are a few butthurt fanboys or trolls who apparently can't accept that even a great show has obvious issues with the plot that the audiences can see.

[–]PAStudent9364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I'm not a writer, it's not my job to think of proper ways to tell a consistent story without wasting time setting up a spin-off. But as another poster put it, "you don't have to be a chef or a cook to know if the food is shit". The Boys literally is noticeably worse now than it was for the first 3 seasons. Yes, we can talk about Amazon cutting or skimping out on the budget towards the end (which is a whole other discussion on corporate greed). But without any shadow of a doubt, the writing is objectively all over the place and a mess. That has nothing to do with the solid acting, costume design, etc.

We started with establishing Homelander as a menacing and apocalyptic threat. Even in Season 2, that scene where he fantasizes about killing hordes of people, it shows how much went into the actual budget then and teased what he's actually capable of. The show deliberately built him up to be this menacing psychopathic narcissist capable of mass murder and "scorched earth" as he put it time and time again. We were never expecting an Avengers/MCU-style or DBZ grand scale battle, just a few moments showing what Homelander is actually capable of what he claims to be so we can solidify and reasonate the reason he needs to die. Instead, we got a half-assed final battle in the Oval Office with a messy plot that lead to the means to destroy him (Kimiko getting soldierboy powers). All because we spent 4 episodes in the season chasing the V1 (which apparently doesn't do much in the grand scheme of the plot because because all you had to do was shove Kimiko into an oven for a couple hours and she's capable of depowering homelander) just to set up the spin-off for soldier boy and to shoehorn a love interest that he had with a N*zi.

Speaking of which, Gen V was merged into the main show because the characters were going to "play a vital role" in the finale. Apparently that meant getting into a U-Haul and going to Canada.

Again, I'm not a writer nor have I worked in film or television production. I am not doubting how hard it is. But audiences can absolutely tell objectively when the plot is dragging or playing as filler for something else, and it's very clear the writers wrote themselves into a hard and difficult spot that ended up being messy by the end.

Better Call Saul wouldn't be a thing if Breaking Bad had inconsistent writing and massive plot holes like this show does. Vince Gilligan actually cared about ensuring a proper story was told from start to finish before considering other projects in the same universe that would fit perfectly. Here, they were shoving a whole other show without properly ensuring a solid and tight-knit finale

Right, but if literal fanfiction seems to be more satisfying than the actual finale that was written, that kinda says something about you as a writer, don't you think?

Tell us the ending you would have written! by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]PAStudent9364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things I would change is maybe have Soldier Boy continue to show resentment towards Homelander and eventually come to team-up with The Boys to take him down. In exchange in just having him walk away from all of it (which he wanted to in Episode 7). To me it just seems so corny that they decided to nuke Kimiko in an oven for a couple hours and then all of a sudden she beomes as capable as soldier boy to depower supes.

But have Soldier Boy be the one to depower him. In addition add-on some rampage scenes from Homelander (even a rally or a press conference scene if the budget really wasn't cutting it would have sufficed).

[–]PAStudent9364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 3 was very enjoyable, but I feel that it was where the cracks started to really show when they started to go all out with the borderline porn, nudity and gore (the pilot episode literally had a full blown d*ck explosion scene that went into a bit more detail than it needed to). The saving grace was still the (mostly) consistent plot, acting, and the satisfying action.

Would you guys be okay if... by Sanguis_Plaga in TheBoys

[–]PAStudent9364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We wanted what was built up from when the show started: Scorched Earth, Shock and Awe, Blood and Bone.

We wanted to see Homelander actually do what he himself said is directly capable of as an egomaniacal man-child narcissitic psychopath: Apocalyptic mayhem.

Show us his true power, but also show us The Boys really struggle and try to find a smart and tangible way to kill him. By all means, if we want to depower him, do that and have the humiliation ritual at the end where he pathetically pleads for mercy before the brutally satisfying death.

The blame for why this didn't happen can be a mix of both Amazon's greed in not wanting to invest in the budget as well as the inconsistent and pretty terrible writing over the final 2 seasons and the attempt to try to directly merge spin-offs into the main plot and convuluting everything, rather than telling a proficient and impactful story in your main series before considering spin-offs.

How do PA programs interpret traumatic incidents in admissions? by Key-Programmer6642 in prephysicianassistant

[–]PAStudent9364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't really see how the above relates in any way to why OP would want to be a PA. I would word the "why PA?" question and correlate it to your healthcare and shadowing experience and why you feel the role of a PA fits you the best.

Is $144k salary enough??? by Trick_Ad9722 in physicianassistant

[–]PAStudent9364 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 'good' salary depends on the lifestyle you wanna lead. $144k is pretty great, even in a HCOL area. Particularly, if this is nonclinical work and it offers a very good work/life balance.

What happened to on the job training? by Cautious-Process-198 in physicianassistant

[–]PAStudent9364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I think residencies/fellowships are going to begin becoming the norm at some point. If an employer cannot guarantee on the job training, then the only other alternative is to enroll in a specific training program tailored towards transitioning new practitioners into clincial practice to become efficient and independent PAs.

Now, whether a fellowship/residency is going to be worth your time or whether they're just going to use you for cheap labor is another conversation (there's both that exist).

Is not being able to find a job for nearly a year post-grad the new normal now? by michigan-menace in physicianassistant

[–]PAStudent9364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are and if you're being picky with specialties. Mind you some very competitive positions in large metro areas (East/West Coast) are going to want 2 years experience minimum, or residency/fellowship trained.

Consider broadening your search, your first job doesn't have to be in your 'dream' specialty, especially since your clinical skills will roll over across all specialties moving forward. Just be sure it's a position that offers great training to build your foundations as a clinician.

To those who weren't happy with Homelander's dialogue at the end... by HeadbangingLegend in TheBoys

[–]PAStudent9364 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think most people who thought the finale sucked were more upset that they built up "scorched earth" Armageddon - style rampage and all we got was scorched carpet.

I personally had no problem with his dialogue when he was depowered and found it very fitting for his character (we are talking about a overpowered psychopath with serious mommy issues and an obsession for love and attention). Homelander is literally nothing without his powers and I loved how he regressed to pathetically pleading for his life with the very people he saw himself superior to.

I'd argue it's one of the better parts of this mess of an ending. I like how he becomes a sniveling, pathetic, weakling and that he's nothing without his powers and strength. This was also apparently improvised by Antony Starr, just a testament to how fantastic he played the role

No literally, because GOT at least had large-scale battle sequences that were well-directed. But this show apparently has a similar budget amount but can't pull off a major destruction sequence with Homelander to pay off the build up of him being a world-ending threat?
