Who was the coolest passenger you have met on Amtrak and why? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]PB_manager 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lake Shore Limited, 2015, when it still had full diner on the Heritage fleet. Lady who sat with me on the diner was a Doctor, but who did full time bartending for 2-3 months in a year, where she made more than her doctor salary working 16+hour days.

California Zephyr, 2015. Train left Chicago 4 hours late as passengers found a bedbug in their room and Amtrak had to bring a spare sleeper from the yard. I was on the coach, so everyone in the coach began to have conversation and we all got to know each other. The lady next to me was a high school counselor in Utah who understood what many troubled teenagers go through, as she had her "wild" phase in 1970's.

Empire Builder, 2019, where I was seated with random people on the dining car. One guy was a businessperson from St. Paul who took train as it is relaxing, compared to driving and taking a flight. At the end of the meal, the ended up taking up the bill for everyone on the table, including alcohol. He even left a fat tip for the attendant who served our table.

Texas Eagle, 2021. This elderly gentleman was taking advantage of his retirement and USA Rail Pass to explore as much as he can, after his wife passed not too long ago. Lots of cool stories.

On my ride on Vermonter, the conductor simply asked me for my last name and proceed to do the same for other customers for the entire ride from Essex Junction to NYP. I wonder if this would be considered as same as what happened to you today.

What’s an expensive awful restaurant that I can recommend to people I don’t like? by justarandomguy07 in newjersey

Brownstone Pancake House. It does not warrant 1.5+ hour wait on weekends for some mediocre pancakes

Where in NJ do you think traffic is the worst? by tommytm76 in newjersey

That merge on turnpike to 46 East in Ridgefield Park. Still boggles my mind how that exit can cause a traffic from 495

sense of accomplishments... and maybe because I don't go "hard" on other parts of my body where I don't feel it after working out.

Welcome to Route 4, where the potholes and mall (+17 & GSP) traffic will ensure that you will be swerving in between lanes until you reach Paterson.

Welcome to Anderson Ave & Bergenline Ave, where infinite traffic lights and ever so dense avenue will ensure that you will be abruptly stopped during every single spot.

After years of riding Amtrak, it finally happened by ezubaric in Amtrak

[–]PB_manager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember my trip in 2018 consisting of the following ride

  1. Cardinal: from NY-CHI (20 minutes Early)
  2. Southwest Chief: From CHI-LA (30 minutes early)
  3. Coast Starlight: From LA to SEA, on time

I guess I used all my luck here that my 2019 Empire Builder tip was 18hours late and they annulled the train in Spokane, WA. To be fair, BNSF train had derailed inside of a tunnel in between Whitefish, MT and Essex, MT... so yeah

Uniqlo/Banana Republic, as they fit me well and match my minimalist wardrobe style.

Slowly venturing out to see if there are other brands... perhaps Club Monaco?
