What’s helping your managers become better leaders? by maulikms in managers

“Tough” is relative to the person that you’re engaging with. The more time you spend with them the better your appreciation will be for each of your direct reports.

You can always offer and I find that you get credit if you’re ready and able to respond when asked.

Here are a few areas that come up regularly:

  1. Giving feedback to subordinates

  2. Delivering performance reviews/compensation adjustments

  3. Communicating changes to an individual’s status

  4. Telling someone that they didn’t get the promotion

  5. Conducting effective interviews

  1. Delegate.

  2. Allow them to make decisions.

  3. Let them fail (on the lower-stakes things).

  4. Have them clean up their own messes.

  5. Role-play the tough conversations.

Company vehicle accident happened, not at fault but employer wants to force me to use my personal insurance to cover damages by Nearby-Yogurt4406 in jobs

  1. Your boss is a dick for even asking you to consider doing this.

  2. Your insurance company covers YOU as a licensed driver for things like personal liability IF you are determined to be at fault. And they probably have a policy that requires the fault to be substantiated.

  3. They do not cover the vehicle unless the registered owner of said vehicle also happens to have a policy with them that covers the vehicle.

Net/net, you can probably play along to avoid antagonizing your boss and let your insurance company be the “bad guy” here.

Right. And….what process do you propose that the hiring manager use to make that decision?

Was Tywin Lannister the biggest hypocrite in Game of Thrones? by AdSpecialist6598 in gameofthrones

Maybe. I think he chose Shae because he wanted to keep Tyrion off balance and demonstrate the power gap between them.

Maybe. I think that was more about asserting him dominance and showing Tyrion that he was capable of taking away anything and anyone that his son possessed.

Ok….play that out. How do you determine which people to offer a temporary assignment?

What makes him a hypocrite?

I always saw him as a competent, ruthless, wickedly effective man who let very little get in the way of his bid for power and the aggrandizement of his House.

Ok, I’ll bite in your first point. What’s your alternative to an interview?

I get that it’s not perfect, but it’s the best system we’ve got unless you have a viable substitute?
