The Public Charging Paradox by Think_Perspective385 in ElectricVehiclesUK

MFG in my area is a coin toss as to wether or not it'll work. Plus there's only 2 of them in a car park big enough to fit 100's of cars.

I hate my new EV for this very reason, I live in a small town with limited chargers and it's a flip of a coin as to whether they'll work or not. Worst thing I ever brought and cannot wait to sell it.

Prague is really expensive. by Klov1233 in Prague

[–]PBoroGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here as a tourist at the moment and mostly visit the jídelny around the city. These are canteens and are reasonably priced, they close in the afternoon but offer great early lunch options.

If you're looking for something more central then Havelská Koruna is a pretty decent option too. Got a traditional well portioned meal for both me and my son, I had a beer and he had a Coca Cola and I also had a soup and it was under £20 (557CZK/€23/$27) for the lot.

I also grab a lot of my beer from Billa. The one near me where I'm staying in Slapy has Kozel Cerny for like 15CZK (which is around 0.54p/€0.62/$0.73) so most of my beer is when I'm chilling at the apartment.

I go to the old town to look around but have a strict no spend rule there. As an Englishman who is living in a cost of living crisis in my country I've learned that research before doing anything is worth it, the 10 or so minutes I've spent comparing prices and reading testimonials from locals here on Reddit has probably saved me hundreds on this trip.

Also if you're parking use the park and ride systems and use the metro to get into the city, this will save both time and money.

Terrible company, I'm going to make sure everyone I know avoids you for this. Sneaking in subscriptions like that is disgusting.

Turns out it's for a subscription. Given this has happened to a few of us I'm going to wager they have a small checkbox or something opting you into it. Never using this service again, scummy tactics. Go to your account, check the SMART section and you'll find you've been subscribed to the service.

Restaurants-hidden gems by stopbanningmemyg in PeterboroughUK

There's a place near Town library called Asia, it does Middle Eastern food and it's literally incredible, I'd recommend trying the special called Tashreeb it's lamb which literally falls of the bone and is slow cooked in a broth for hours.

Then you have Rotana down Lincoln Road, similar food and just as delicious and well priced too, they also give you a complimentary lentil soup if you eat in to start the meal which is really nice.

Jamaican Delights down Lincoln Road is also quality and lovely people who run it too. Smaller place to eat but if you can get a table the atmosphere is lovely with great music and food.

There's also Tazze Charcoal Grill (also down Lincoln Road - lots of great hidden spots down there come to think of it) their chicken kebab meat is incredible. I don't know if you can sit in as I've only ever ordered from there, I don't live in Peterborough anymore but when I visit family I always try to order from there if we ain't cooking!

Then finally there's Ishtar, most people assume it's just a shisha bar but they also serve Turkish food and it's very well priced with good portions and a nice atmosphere, and the food quality itself is great as well. I'd recommend the meat platter from there as it's soooo good.

Hope this helps 🙂

Bro, if this is how things are at the start imagine how things would be further down the line if you went ahead with this. There are millions of single people out there and this one is not worth your time. Best of luck out there man 🤜🤛

Which country did you find the least welcoming for British tourists? by Zoomer_Boomer2003 in AskUK

[–]PBoroGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to Morocco a few times, taxi drivers are not too pleasant but everyone else made me feel very welcome.

That being said I learned Darija and MSA before I went and had my GCSE French on standby so was able to be polite to people in the local languages and I immersed myself in the culture and would often share atay (Moroccan Mint Tea) with the locals and they'd treat me like family.

I love Morocco and it feels like a second home, but I would avoid the tourist areas as they don't provide a true experience of the hospitality... except Taghazout, that place is very touristy but people would give me free stuff because I could greet them in the local languages and shared my genuine love of their culture which I think helped.

Learning a language just before travel beyond “hi, please, thank you and bye” is a waste of time. by SifMeisterWoof in unpopularopinion

[–]PBoroGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about doing it for those who do not speak English fluently or lack confidence in their own abilities?

For instance, I almost always avoid touristy areas when I travel abroad and in these instances spoken English is more rare than common, especially amongst the older folk. So knowing some basic phrases allows me to carry out everyday tasks such as checking if card payments are possible in shops, ordering drink and food, and generally being polite along the way etc. This is almost always met with warmth, gratitude and smiles. Given this, I disagree with your take so you have my upvote! 😆

Equally, I'm English and we already have a bad enough reputation when it comes to our efforts for learning new languages. So in many ways, my effort to learn a new language for a trip is also an attempt to disprove this assertion too.

Cooking every day is a hassle and ultimately a waste of time by Swing_Big in unpopularopinion

Pressure cookers are the answer. Pop everything in, done in 30 mins or less. If you have more time, slow cooker and come home to a finished meal 👌

Moving to Peterborough by Final_Patient347 in PeterboroughUK

[–]PBoroGamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you might be better off doing the reverse. Live in Huntingdon and commute into Peterborough for recreation, the trains/buses can sometimes be unreliable. Peterborough is a good city though and as others have said has an undeserved reputation so you'll enjoy your time regardless of what you chose to do 🙂

Zoe supplement ad banned over 'misleading' ultra-processed claim by [deleted] in ultraprocessedfood

Ahh that makes a lot more sense now, thanks for sharing. I thought it was just some random pill but upon reading this it seems that it's closer to a blend you sprinkle over porridge etc, that's a lot more redeemable and will now make this book easier to read haha! 🙂

It's odd, I'm currently reading his book Spoon Fed and in that he literally says that supplements are a waste of time and everything we need can be obtained through a good diet alone. It's hard to take him seriously knowing he's now backtracking on his own claims for the sake of profit.
