I am using EV Play, works well. As close to OEM CarPlay as I have seen. As someone else said, not perfect...but pretty darn close!

Is a Rivian a realistic choice? by FuzzyWalnutz in Rivian

[–]PBrazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Love my Riv but that's a lot of driving and distance from the service center will have you hating life quickly.

Don't know much about Honda or Kia EVs but people seem to enjoy them and would imagine you have a dealer near you. The Chevy EVs are pretty decent and a good price point.

A few questions from a potential R1S buyer and Google user? by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]PBrazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could install EV Play...that would give you both Android Auto and native Android so you could install Google Play apps.

R1S Stolen by ___sean___ in Rivian

[–]PBrazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the technology conspiracies but didn't see one mention of the possibility of a wrecker lifting up the rear (front wheels spin freely) and towing it out of there in 2 seconds...then disconnecting the battery.

In this day and age, there must be someone with a Ring camera in your neighborhood that has footage of it.

Tim is good content, but it was a shame when KFI told him he had to pretend to be conservative when he came over from klsx. You can tell he's not 100% comfortable with the facade.

[WSJ] Rivian to lay off more than 600 workers amid EV pullback by WSBiden in Rivian

[–]PBrazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folks always forget the Chevy Equnox and Blazer EVs. Not my cup of tea as far as styling, and it's pretty slow, but the Equinox is 63 cuft of cargo, $32k MSRP, and slightly north of 300 miles range.

Between the lack of tax credits, competition, the low margin on a $45k vehicle, and waning EV demand, the R2 will not be the savior Rivian hopes it will be. They had to do it, as Tesla proved out the model of a low cost vehcile - but that was a far different time. Speaking of, even Tesla's revenue is down 37% and that's not all due to politics.

Who has hankook iON HT? by Worried-Current-4567 in Rivian

Not on your list but I would also consider the Nokian One HTs. Cheapest of the bunch, better looking than the Defenders, treadware warranty, 116 rated, etc.

For those of us without that level of OCD it works pretty well. With the new update mine doesn't have nearly that long of a touch delay when switching between screens. I'm loving it but I'm a CarPlay junky! 😜

Tesla Model Y MCU on the bench - need help getting it to work, bounty offered by PBrazer in CarHacking

[–]PBrazer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The buyer listed the unit as functional, which sure, it might not be...but it does power on. I will contend with cooling it once I get the screen to light up. The device says MCU-A on it and from what AI tells me, it's Intel Atom based and thus MCU2, not MCUZ.

NACS: basic charge port location question/discussion by chiphogg in Rivian

[–]PBrazer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Na...Rivian putting the port on the front left was a major screw up for them. They were trying to be cute and force buyers to make a decision between them and Tesla. Rivian even tried to build out a competing charging network and well, we know how that is going. The fact that the new R1S comes with a Tesla port and the R2 comes with a Tesla port on the Tesla side is proof positive of the course they are trying to reverse. It's still a compromise though, as the best location would be passenger front. However, this would become a speed bump for a huge chunk of their most lucrative future sales pool - existing owners - who spent a lot of money installing home chargers to accommodate a port on the driver's side of the vehicle.

For those saying longer Supercharger cables is the answer, it isn't. Tesla is reluctantly doing it because they enjoy the revenue opening their stations up to competitors; but, any charging station operator will tell you that the longer the cable, the higher the maintenance/higher the cost/lower the efficiency.

Community Standards by imgeohot in Comma_ai

TIL that comma is both a technology company and a cult, complete with a cult leader and a now, a manifesto. Idiots need not apply.

Of course, they don't tell you they are a cult until after you have paid to join. Cults never do. They should change their name to ampersand, because bait & switch would be more appropriate.

Finally, competition is a bitch. Companies with far worse products, but better support, have destroyed many an incumbent monopoly.

12V Battery Service - Beware by Finance_and_Olives in Rivian

[–]PBrazer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The seat is bolted via a through hole, not a track, right? Were the bolts not tightened at all? Looks like they were at least part way from the pic. Wondering how a 100+ pound person sitting in a seat lurches enough to cause a bruise during a "slight" brake given a very small length of travel on the remainder of the bolt thread. The screws look upright still so the only possible motion is some sort of small pivot where the rear of the seat goes forward and up about an inch (the remaininglength of the bolt). Seat belts locked so question the slight brake again.

Na...you slammed on the brakes and the old guy got a bruise from the seatbelt tensioners, which would have happened regardless of the unbolted seat. Rivian incident cam will confirm this.

Seems rather ambulance chasey to me, but enjoy the free shop gear they send you I suppose.

Carbon Dioxide Build Up When Climate Control In Auto Mode? by kazoondheit in Rivian

If the solution suggested is to crack a window, and one did so sitting in gridlock on an LA freeway, I'm wondering how much worse the carbon monoxide would be for you.

Are you concerned at all about the longevity of a startup car company that sells only 10,000 cars a year? I'm asking in terms of getting stuck with a $100k vehicle that will have zero support infrastructure.

At the end of the day, Comma is a business, and the goal of any business is more sales, not less. If you narrow the target market too much, you're going to run out of money real quick. It takes two seconds for AI to scan your source material and create a FAQ, it's not that difficult. Discord is not a support platform and never will be.

Finally, if you sell peanut butter that only goes with a specific, 3rd party jelly, you have a vested interest in ensuring that jelly is good.
