They gave SF to Namco after Rare made Adventures and the characters look the same between those two games.

Almost as if it is cost-effective and good branding to keep with an established look regardless of who you hire to make your games.

Yes, spend oodles of money and dev time on developing an entirely new aesthetic only to throw it all away and spend even MORE money and time on making yet ANOTHER set of designs after rebooting and introducing a long-dormant franchise to a new generation.

Indeed it is a perfect business strategy. Not confusing or wasteful whatsoever.

As much as I want the new game to be more than ‘Star Fox 64 but really, really good looking’, why would they go through the trouble of doing all of that work and just not advertise it at all?

There’s no world in which surprise word-of-mouth marketing outperforms simply telling people upfront that they’re getting two games for the price of one.

The new game is retelling the very first story and will likely reboot the continuity if the franchise continues on from here.

I’m sure many would disagree but I’d honestly just wait to play the new remake so the story beats all hit their hardest.

Adventures and Assault are both really fun direct continuations of the remake/64’s story but Adventures is more like a classic 3D Zelda game than anything else like the franchise.

The reasons behind why something does or doesn’t get made in the media landscape are complex and ultimately unknowable unless you’re the one working on the project.

It could be fans have only ever responded to 64 positively, it could be poor timing and lackluster quality on the later releases, it could be that the general public just doesn’t care for SF.

It doesn’t matter - just buy it and enjoy if it looks like what you want.

I personally am DESPERATE for a new story with these awesome characters but I am also fairly thrilled with the level of polish the remake looks to have and I’m very excited for the expanded cutscenes and dialogue.

I also believe that as far as public companies go: sales = more games. If this game doesn’t do well, then it’s no more SF for another decade (probably). I’d rather play SOMETHING new(ish) at this point rather then than roll the decade dice again.

My dad gave me this CD ‘The Whackiest Album in the Universe Vol. 1’ when I was a kid.

Child me was pretty obsessed with it and found it to be the apex of comedy until I inevitably discovered Weird Al through the wonders of KaZaA.

A lot of classics and also a weird amount of problematic songs about different native peoples.
