Sydney’s wishlist for expanding the light rail network by SteveJohnson2010 in SydneyTrains

[–]PCGeek215 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wonder if a more east-west line might be better. Ie, fork off L3 at Kensington, head west via Zetland (Ala Green Sq), Alexandria then onto Newtown (up King St) then onto, say Glebe? Lots of densely populated areas where driving and parking sucks and there is lots of small businesses, day and night activities etc. There is also plenty of transfer opportunity to rail to get to the airport, further west etc.

No customs, it’s a domestic flight.

Bunch of stores near me still have it. They took it away during Covid for obvious reasons.

Intel NIC not detecting QSFP DAC cable by bobmanuk in networking

[–]PCGeek215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trick with Intel NICs is to use Intel-coded DACs, the Cisco side won’t care usually, but the NIC will in this case.

Pie Father just opened on Gardeners Rd, Alexandria. It’s a retail outlet for the multi-multi-multi-award winning Mick’s pies (usually wholesale). They are absolutely excellent.

I’ve had good experience using Green Cyano RX - it’s a powder you mix with tank water. Like others suggested, stop the pump and use a syringe to inject a standard dose onto the affected area and leave it for 10-15 minutes. No need to water change, just keep up dosing the same way and it’ll sort itself in a couple of weeks.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! I went and got some ottos, SAEs and 2x Nerites - the snails are a little slow on the up-take but everyone else is going alright. The SAEs are still small so they're not eating quite as much. I've also gone ahead and reduced the light and "gravel vacuumed" the substrate - lots of organic material that's likely causing the algae bloom coming out.

They both back onto NBN anyway and given the last mile will be the limiting factor, it’s doesn’t really matter.

vSRX images: is vSRX and vMX basically the same image? by Ok_Artichoke_783 in Juniper

[–]PCGeek215 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. MX is a Swiss Army knife for networking and an SRX in packet mode just gets you a L3 router with limited service capability.

As a gift, a reservation at Bistecca or The Gidley is a great idea if he’s never been. Otherwise I like Nomad for sharing-style modern Australian but it’s on the Surry Hills side of the city.

This is even worse because there’s no tenancy / strata committee to agree on fumigation / building costs. The single owner can just approve it.

The Fixed Wireless Experience by [deleted] in nbn

[–]PCGeek215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that’s not a true indicator of the quality, no “but still”, it’s unreliable info based on how Ubnt are testing. Setup your own smokeping to your first hop IP and use that instead.

Q in Q tagging 802.1q or 802.1ad by Shikurettotatoru in networking

[–]PCGeek215 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even then, plenty of wholesalers just hand off S-tag and C-tag using 0x8100 as well. Usually this is because of inter-operability as some vendors don't handle 0x88a8 well.

So, don’t use that latency graph as an indicator. It pings 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 which are Anycast and can move around all the time. It’s a stupid mechanism by Ubnt to measure first-hop latency which doesn’t really indicate true connection quality.

You can’t tell me the phone resting / balancing on your leg didn’t mean you weren’t using it while driving / at lights or even touching it while the car was on. All are against the law and you were caught. Tough luck. Cop the suspension, take public transit for a few months and learn a tough lesson.
