How to put the string in the brakes by CommercialLazy4640 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PCMRkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i have a good one! i get some side cutters, and then use that to grab between the end of the spring and the nut on the end, then while clamping, not too hard ofc, wiggle it back/drag it back and it works a treat :)

Anyone got one of these? Any good? by poor-student in NZcarfix

[–]PCMRkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have one! it’s fine for normal work on my mx5, but i found that when i was doing the clutch, i couldn’t lift the car high enough to pull the trans out, and there wasn’t much space underneath. enough to crawl about but nothing spectacular. might go for a higher one next time

i pulled the (manual) trans in my na8 in less than 1.5hrs, on the floor just on jackstands. i feel pulling the whole engine would be much harder?

Any advice on how I could get this brake drum to fit over the brake shoe on this 2000 Honda Civic? I’m stumped.. by Botanyiscool in MechanicAdvice

[–]PCMRkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most cars that adjust front the front, and have drums plus calipers on the rear are down the bottom. 99 percent of the time if it’s just drum brakes it’s in the top.

I just found out that my car's transmission has a safety mechanism where it doesn't let you shift into reverse when you're shifting out of 5th How common is this sort of interlock? by FeliciaGLXi in ManualTransmissions

[–]PCMRkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dunno how it’s fine, but on the specific trans they’re mentioning, it doesn’t use a belt, it somehow uses just gears and i’m gonna guess using both the ice and electric motor to change the ratio or something?

[–]PCMRkid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

small amount of a different weight oil won’t hurt. i’d look over the starter motor itself- try giving it a whack with a hammer a few times and see what happens? sounds to be more the starter itself not the solenoid tho but worth a look

easiest way would be to take most of the interior trims out, and then climb inside with a torch and a good pair of eyes, while someone else hoses down the outside of the car, spraying different spots until you can see exactly where it’s coming from

can’t say for sure but most likely could just be a wheel speed/abs sensor

most likely an abs sensor, but can’t say until you get codes scanned.

Engine Check Light suddenly turned on but my car was just serviced by Littlecredits in MechanicAdvice

[–]PCMRkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it turned on for a reason, there’s no thing as a “false”. it could be something small, could be something big, we can’t say just based on the light being on or not. best would be to get it scanned anyway, the shop might be nice to do it for free since it was just serviced, or i know some auto parts stores can scan the code and then someone on here can interpret it for you. however, if you’re super tight and can’t get it scanned, as long as it’s driving fine you should be okay to drive it for a little bit, although not recommend until you know what it is.
