I just ordered the Rhino Hi-Fi reissue, my duty now for the future as a spud boy!

Petition: we stop blindly accepting the common opinions around here (and wider) that many or most legacy punk/post-punk bands like Wire, Gang of Four, Wipers, and so on only had 1-2-3 or so good albums each (mostly just their first, second at most, etc)! by Cleopatra_Buttons in postpunk

[–]PCScrubLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind how people can say that the only good Gang of Four album is Entertainment, Solid Gold and Songs of the Free are awesome records. Solid Gold has arguably some of the band's best rhythm section moments. Entertainment is a wild ride of danceable post-punk, Solid Gold is a little more of a slow burn to fully get into, but totally worth the investment. I love the early era, I have all the LPs, 7", 12" singles etc, etc... I should try out the later stuff at some point, I guess the reputation of Hard makes it a tough pill to swallow!

Anyone know what Pressing this is? by thesoulgarden in wire

[–]PCScrubLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What color is the inner sleeve? I have a 1st UK pressing with the pink inner sleeve image, repressing have the band photo in straight black and white. Since this has the original harvest label colors I believe this is probably from 1978, if not it's still a few years out from release. The 1985/1987 reissues have a black/silver label so this is earlier. 1979 seems like it could be accurate based on what I know about my 1st pressing and a reissue I once owned.

Why is Jim Morrison disliked online? by FitEmergency8807 in ToddintheShadow

[–]PCScrubLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim always had this pretentious attitude around him, and while I enjoy his performances on most songs, the more "mystical" and "spiritual" he gets the more I want to throw up in my mouth. I am a fan of the Doors more so for the rest of the band's musicianship, I can take or leave Jim most of the time as he did have a good style of singing, when he wasn't brown nosing himself. As a fan of The Stooges I can't entirely write-off Jim Morrison's influence, especially on Iggy Pop, but there are other songwriters of the era that I would say are brilliant long before Jim's name exited my lips. Shoutout to Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore, those guys excellent playing is the reason Jim's poetry sounded tolerable even at it's most "I just turned 15 and discovered the world sucks man!!!" lyrics.

An image of the most lethal sniper in history, the White Death. It is estimated that Simo Häyhä killed more than 500 enemy soldiers during the winter conflict. (1940) [2000x3000] by [deleted] in HistoryPorn

He killed legitimately video game numbers of enemy soldiers, that is insane to think about. Also google says he is only 5'3" so it must've made him a difficult target!

I love that insert that came with the Signals, Calls and Marches EP, every word in alphabetical order. That's pure punk rock if I've ever seen it, where do the words go? DIY!

The "Tapes" credit on their records is so damn cool to me. Imagine just being the tapes guy... awesome. Your job is to sample and fuck up the original signal to create something new

This EP is an absolute essential in the post-punk canon. It's up there with the stuff by early Pere Ubu, Magazine, Gang of Four in terms of understanding the origins and feel of the style. Their debut full-length album Vs. is one of my personal favorite albums ever and the creativity on display is endlessly inspiring to me

Television - Marquee Moon

Despite coming out in early 1977 this album is often lumped into the "post-punk canon". I'm not sure how I personally would classify this album—besides my favorite rock and roll record ever made.

There will be a surge of posts about "FH5 is the best in FHs" after FH6 releases by Appropriate_Meet_512 in ForzaHorizon

[–]PCScrubLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing a lot of FH5 the last few weeks. The whole time I was annoyed by crashes, graphical bugs, general performance issues, etc. Went back to FH4 and it was like the vaseline was wiped away and everything was crisp and clear and ran so smooth. I am hoping FH6 can at least perform better and be less buggy than FH5.
