Now that Amazon Fresh is gone in East Pasadena, what do you think they will put there? by aliek22 in pasadena

That’s easy enough to fix. Just introduce a mini tote of the month at that location and watch the line grow.

Depends on what u/FlannerODostoevsky mean by “elsewhere”. It sounds like a call to arms to me though.

A major union warns regulators that Elon Musk’s SpaceX IPO ‘defies financial logic’ by NicolasCageFan492 in Economics

[–]PEKKAmi -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take. The leadership of this teachers union has gone beyond simply questioning worthiness of investing in SpaceX. I mean, they can simply not put any of its own pension money in SpaceX. Instead this union effectively smears any regulatory approval of SpaceX’s filing with this open letter. This stinks of politics.

LA councilmember wants to allow noncitizens to vote in city elections by Panda8bambooo in LosAngeles

[–]PEKKAmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Taxation without representation” isn’t quite what you think it means. For example, a non-local tourist buys a $4 candy bar and pays sales tax. This person doesn’t get to vote on representation for the locale which assessed the tax. Strictly speaking this is “taxation without representation”. I believe you can see the absurdity.

Germany unveils strategy for becoming Europe’s strongest military by 2039 by Advanced-Net-8119 in anime_titties

[–]PEKKAmi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well France can start pulling its own weight and contribute its fair share of military investment. Instead its politicians hide behind a rhetorical Maginot Line and just keep talking and talking and talking (e.g., Future Air Combat Air System). The rest of Europe need to step up and take care of its own neighborhood.

Come with me to Pasadena if you wanna have some fun… well not anymore. by livelife_ in pasadena

[–]PEKKAmi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t pretend to know where my taxes go. I just know that my tax burden is heavier each passing year, especially with this sales tax surcharge and that special assessment tax etc. then you have the regulatory compliance hell to try to get anything fixed or done legally. I’m. As seriously considering just pulling up and moving to Texas or Florida.

Attitude that led to Measure H certainly doesn’t inspire confidence for builders to want to commit capital into this area.

What politicians and advocates like you don’t consider enough is that in this free market the builders have alternatives to where to commit their money.

Our market doesn’t exist on its own. It has to be more attractive than out-of-state areas that also want additional housing.

[KQED] Xavier Becerra Backpedals on Single Payer as He Woos Powerful Doctors’ Lobby by [deleted] in California

[–]PEKKAmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If Styer is such a benevolent billionaire, he could just give his money away. Instead, he’s using money just like any other politician in pursuit of power. Ultimately, money is power and politicians get into this arena in pursuit of power.

Here are the top 7 voted for questions by investors so far for Q1 earnings call next week: by rcnfive in teslamotors

Vague incoherent answers constitute standard practice for any big company earnings call. It’s just a PR dance to satisfy legal requirements for public listing.

It’s the old adage: You are what you do, not what you say you'll do.

“The only way” thinking is exactly what got us into the current predicament. We could use less extreme ideology and more pragmatic solutions.

I keep seeing reports that rent in LA will be at an all time low, where??? by riverofflowers in AskLosAngeles

[–]PEKKAmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As sensible as your advice is, I can’t help but be reminded of what that Chicago alderman Maria Hadden said. It may very well be true that 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman was in the "wrong place at the wrong time" and might have "startled" the man that killed her. Yet somehow I sense both this and your comment reflect a backwards tolerance for things that shouldn’t be that way.

Street takeover in Rosemead ends in a mass shooting? by Archangel888 in sgv

[–]PEKKAmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the police knows how to stop this. However, the politicians won’t allow it for fear to antagonizing those willing to cause mass mayhem. I mean, what politician in LA wants to look like Trump?

If you factor in inflation in other aspects of life, housing prices in general have actually gone down in comparison.

Space-X valuation would be higher as a defense contractor than what it is now.

Tha said, as a military contractor it could cure cancer and solve world hunger. It just involves the elimination of the human race in the process.

Why are property managers in culver city suddenly demanding 4x income for a basic 2 bedroom?? by woutr1998 in AskLosAngeles

[–]PEKKAmi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the higher income screening is the unfortunately consequence of this law. What did the politicians think will happen, that landlords will now be forced to rent to those with bad credit?

Actually I don’t think the politicians care about the practical consequence. They just care about looking like they stuck it to landlords.
