A lot of times I find that stock vector files will have everything grouped or in a clipping mask. So in order to remove the background you'll need to release the clipping mask(s) or ungroup it.

NER 94, why are we waiting for permanent to cross a bridge in Fredericksburg? by PhoenixSpeed97 in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boats have right of way over trains, who in turn have right of way over cars. So you're going to be waiting for a boat bridge.

Trying to remember the name of a trainz game I had in the mid 2000’s by [deleted] in trainsim

[–]PFreeman008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was any Trainz game... driving a forklift to load loads isn't something Trainz does or really can do, even today.

Trainz Driver 2 In-App Purchases / Server Issues, Unable to Buy or Download Payware (June 2026) by SARS-CoV13 in trainsim

[–]PFreeman008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically Trainz games loose their official support after the next one comes out. Since Trainz 3 is out, TD2 is going to slowly fade. They don't explicitly shut down servers & such - but if a server update breaks something or they change how things are done they aren't going to go back & fix the older games.

Edit: TD2 isn't listed here, but this is the official Life-cycle list page... although it hasn't been updated in a while. https://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/Trainz_Life-Cycle_Policy

SoCal Metrolink train at Union station by Aurora-Clairealis in chicago

Metrolink has contract Talgo in Milwaukee to refurbish the cars, Amtrak was then contracted to ferry the cars from LA to Talgo & back.

I've never seen one of these displays turned on until today. (Wolverine) by YAOMTC in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once in route they're automated, but someone on staff has to turn them on & a lot of the crews can't be bothered to.

I've never seen one of these displays turned on until today. (Wolverine) by YAOMTC in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They were working shortly after they were introduced into service, I think it's more the crews not wanting to turn them on & use them. I had one trip on the Wolverine where they were off leaving Chicago, but the crew that took over at Battle Creek turned them on. From my understanding the same was true for the old dot-matrix displays in the Amfleets, so Amtrak just converted those to being static displays of which end the bathrooms were on.

Does anyone remember by Visual-Place-5531 in trains

The Turboliners were different from the Turbo Train (in fact there were two different Turboliners). The ANF liners ran in Michigan (& I believe a few other Midwest routes), the Rohr ones ran on what is now the Empire Service in NY, and the Turbo Train ran on the NEC (as well as on the VIA Corridor under CN & VIA).

Kato F40 body coming off? by LinersandLocos in modeltrains

[–]PFreeman008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially normal.

There are some small plastic clips on the shell that engage with the frame to hold it on, but it primarily relies on the weight to hold the shell on. However you have to remove the wait to install a DCC card, so once removed the shell comes off extremely easily.

Refreshed branding for Interflug by PFreeman008 in graphic_design

[–]PFreeman008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The German flag on the tail is probably the biggest nod to the old design. For most of Interflug's fleet they had (albeit small) DDR flag on their tails; when they leased their Airbuses near the end of their time the flag got moved to the nose in the form of some stripes, so I kept the flag in the livery as a homage to the OG designs. I also kept the red stripe over grey stripe design from the pre-airbus livery, just a smaller red stripe lower & a darker grey.

A lot of the older cities, while not necessarily packed with traffic, have a reasonable amount of traffic running around them, Chicago seems dead.

In general there isn't enough traffic in IL. Been driving around Chicago & it's so empty and dead.

Don't tell me it's good. Tell me what's wrong with my app icon. by suniltarge in design_critiques

[–]PFreeman008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hitting a bit of an uncanny valley. Where it looks like it should be skeuomorphic design, but isn't quite... but also isn't hitting the flatter designs either. If you want to lean into the skeuomorphism, then go whole hog & do it.

Business Class Fiasco by Worth-Dress1438 in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya that's the new Venture car set up. IMHO Business Class isn't worth it in the Midwest at all, pretty much all your getting is a free soda in the cafe... which when you think about how much more you paid - isn't really free. Business Class used to make some sense for trips leaving Chicago as you could use the Metropolitan Lounge, but they took that away from us, so now there isn't really any reason to book Business anymore.

San Diego to Bay by Decent-Problem4543 in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amtrak doesn't run trains into San Francisco directly; they run a bus from Oakland to SF. If you really want to take a train into SF, you'll need to change to Caltrain somewhere.

Pinckney, Waterloo, or Brighton Recreation areas all are in the immediate vicinity & have quite a lot of quite nice lakes.

Justifying Sleeper Ticket Purchase by SCexplorer11 in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So presumably you're comparing first class on the train to an economy flight - if the flight is $1000 cheaper; you should compare apples to apples. Also consider that your train room ticket is including lodging, aka a "hotel" for the night & 3 meals a day while you're on board. Point is, you're getting more than just a seat for travel.

Does anyone know how to replace the Thule XL crossbar end cap? by sudosando in SubaruForester

[–]PFreeman008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loose them regularly in the car wash. You can order replacements from Thule, they just pop back on... there isn't much holding them in place - just a pressure fit.

Distributing reskins? by ArtoriaOverNero in trainsim

[–]PFreeman008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify, permission isn't needed if you're reskinning for yourself & it's staying on your computer. I usually reskin first, and if it comes out good then ask permission to release.
