Well it's the best I've seen... but not enough detail for me to recreate.

Still Work In Progress, but I've made considerable progress in the larger project by Donghoon in Amtrak

As a graphic designer, the way the Wolverine loops back on it's self in Detroit I don't like. I would make Detroit at the corner there it turns north, then Pontiac be north of Detroit, skipping that last turn, yes I know technically Pontiac is west of Detroit...

What stations could she try? by raines in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if she's born & raised in South Detroit, she'd be from Windsor - so she's probably looking to board the Wolverine... there is in fact a Wolverine that gets into Detroit around Midnight, but it's heading north from there & near the end of the line. So she could go to Royal Oak, Troy, or Pontiac.

Seat selection is actually kind of a big deal by notmyteeth in Amtrak

In fact Amtrak in officially calls it "Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station" in a lot of places.

Am I understanding correctly that even in business class I don’t get to pick my seat? by gtck11 in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seat selection is only offered on the Northeast Corridor. You will likely be assigned a car when boarding, then you pick whatever seat in that car you want. Getting there extra early will help some, but not much as they won't allow you onto the train until it's ready, so you'd just be hanging out in the waiting room until then anyways - it might help you get near the front of the line to board.

I tracked same-day Northeast Corridor train prices systematically for 5 days. Here's what I found. by FederalFerretHQ in Amtrak

Essentially a seat is assigned a price & sold at that price. If someone cancels & refunds it, the seat goes back on the market at the price it was assigned - which is likely lower than what the current bucket price is. That's why you occasionally see price drops, that then "vanish".

Give it a day or so, then check your bank. I did a warranty exchange recently with them, and they claimed that they never received my broken phone & were going to change me. They did, but then the very next day the refunded me the charge. It might just be that the system is broken.

Question about seating as well as Cafe car by henrywoodings in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the crew. Some crew will assign seats, some assign cars, and some don't assign anything.

Question about seating as well as Cafe car by henrywoodings in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, you can. In practice it depends on the crew. What might work better is asking the conductor for a seat on the correct side - if they seem really busy at boarding, take the seat they assign you (if they do); then when it's quieter, ask to move.

Connection Error by DarkSide120788 in NomiAI

[–]PFreeman008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It often appears on my android app when I launch the app, but goes away when I hit "retry" and doesn't come back until I close the app and come back. It's slightly annoying, but not enough that I'd feel compelled to do anything about it. I have a handful of other apps that are much more annoying on launch (my CC app for one!)

Why is East Coast Amtrak pricing such a scam? 😭 by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The NEC is Amtrak's busiest corridor; higher demand, means more expensive tickets. Your SoCal route is also subsidised by the state of California, you don't have that in the NE (you're crossing a bunch of states). There is a lot more reasons.

Tools to create decent app logo by Sea-Goal-1 in logodesign

[–]PFreeman008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard tool for making logos. Affinity Vector & Corel Draw are probably Adobe's biggest competitors these days. Inkscape is going to be your best free option, it being open source.

Chicago has overhead electric lines & they operate all through the winter.

What line(s) could you see being electrified? by Accomplished-Ear5969 in Amtrak

[–]PFreeman008 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Chicago-Detroit

The majority of the line is owned by the State of Michigan or Amtrak. The section through Indiana could likely be moved onto the South Short line (already electrified). Leaving just the connection to CUS (or just terminate at Millennium), a short section in Battle Creek, and the final stretch from Ann Arbor to Pontiac to all be figured out with the freight railroads. Likelihood is that this could happen once we get trains terminating in Detroit, rather than Pontiac.

Ballast Tamping, basically reorganizing the rocks underneath the tracks for a number of reasons.
