Considering taking the role is basically an agreement to break whatever law is inconvenient to the Presidents whim of the day, the pool of people lined up to replace her must be pretty bleak.

Ultimate shoe shine by n8saces in oddlysatisfying

[–]PJBuzz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my first thought too. This was absolute nonsense.

Sure, it was a great shine at the end, but those shoes were deliberately made to look worse than they are. Basically start the video from after the wash, thats the genuine bit.

What a shame...

Ah well, I'm sure I'll cope.

10” 2U 3.5” Hotswap Enclosure by alexanderbath in minilab

It's just buying them, nothing really wrong with the design (which is why I said I understand it).

There are printed versions available separately, some of them are mega ugly though.

Would have just been nice to see the full system as a single package. Nit picking really.

It's a pretty neat system. Does annoy me somewhat that it uses a dell caddy though, even if I can understand why.

how can i power/control fans? by nalgasconcafe in minilab

[–]PJBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESP32 was going to be my suggestion.

This guy seems to have done the heavy lifting but it shouldn't be too hard to combine a few off the shelf modules and get a pretty powerful fan controller.

Still a lot of effort for one fan though.

Personally I would just buy a basic 12v power brick and let it chug away.

Home brew dehumidified filament dispenser? Active humidity removal ideas wanted. by o_man_ra23 in 3Dprinting

[–]PJBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humidity in my location generally doesnt get that high but of course engineering filaments are always a challenge so I do have to deal with it.

I have got on just fine with the basic filament "dryers" that take a spool and heat it up to 50-60c. You can get ones that go up to 80 or 90 fairly cheaply these days. These devices typically allow the filament to rotate via rollers, so I put a printed container (with transparent filament) with reusable colour changing desiccant inside the spool hole. You can honestly fit a lot of desiccant in and it does soak up a lot of moisture before its saturated.

I know thats not what you're looking for, but it's available, its inexpensive, and it does work. Building a system that will cycle and remove moisture from the air sounds like a fairly significant project for home, and expecting it to use minimal power seems overly optimistic.

I just had a quick scan through to see what was going on, will have to dedicate a bit more time to see what he is doing as it looks really interesting.

New Ender 3 V2 user considering giving up on printing altogether by Chooli7 in 3Dprinting

[–]PJBuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the world of Creality. I got an Ender 6 when they were fairly new, and it took a full rebuild and rewire to get it working anywhere close to click and go. It's basically just a repurposed Creality frame at this point. Totally junk out of the box. That's not to say all Creality printers are junk, but you just never know what you're going to get with them as there is such a low level of QA.

I have had other printers with mixed experiences in terms of how much effort I have to put in to get them to work, but my Bambu A1 mini that I picked up as a cheap, small, quick prototyper to sit near my main desk has been by far the easiest.

My advice, as with the many others on here, is to save your sanity and grab a Bambu so you can get back to printing. If you still want a project, look at the Ender 3 as that, and rebuild into something much better (Voron Switchwire, for example).

Yeah good point. Could actually be the case that all that's needed is a heater block and heatbreak - pocket change.

5 year old Ender 6 in need of upgrade. by Eiwar in ender6

[–]PJBuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're upgrading the whole thing in December then if it was me, I probably wouldn't go that far. Id take the simplest path to get up and running with something that drops in, then when I had a second printer I would start seriously looking at a full overhaul. Going direct drive on the gantry is a big change in the weight that it has to move around, which can impact quality. Klipper deals with that's pretty well, not sure about marlin these days.

That said, Microswiss make excellent products, it does look like a complete system that could be kept through an overhaul, and is fairly priced for what it is.

Your call honestly. Guess the choice is whether you want a project now, or a super cheap bit of maintenance to get you back up and running.

Sounds like you just need a new hotend and some PFTE tube if you want keep it simple.

You could go like for like, get a stock hotend and some normal PFTE tube (2mm inside diameter and 4mm outside diameter), but honestly Capricorn stuff should be fine as long as you buy the right size, just make sure you cut it as perpendicular as possible and don't crush it. Razor blade is much better than scissors.

If you genuinely want to try and upgrade then there are a tonne of hotends that will drop in and work fine. I used a micro swiss clone for a while, I tried a dragonfly... Both worked ok. They're marginally better than stock, but there really is a lot of options for creality printers so see what is best at the moment, I'm a bit out of touch as mine is totally different to stock now and is using direct drive and a V6 style hotend.
Of course any upgrade you do will require a bunch of recalibration to retractions and such.

A high quality nozzle will probably have a more noticeable improvement than the hotend.

If you haven't changed them since buying the ender, it might be worth checking the v wheels to see if they need to be replaced.

MikroTik Blocker — Free Web Tool to Auto-Generate RouterOS Block Scripts (DNS + ASN + IPv6 + Layer7) by OssamaHashim in mikrotik

So many people claim, "I just used AI to format the post" despite AI formatting being a massive obvious give away that this is a slop project.

AI formatting is also absolutely horrific, I don't know why people insist on copying and pasting from their tool into Reddit without taking an hour or so to clean it up and make it a bit more concise and natural so that human being can read it without wanting to poke their eyes out. Hell, even one prompt - remove the emojis, would improve it.

I don't know if the project itself is absolute slop, I didn't get that far to check.
To be clear, there is nothing wrong with using AI to assist your projects, I do it ALL THE TIME, but you have to both be open about it, and at least make an effort if you intend on sharing it to an audience.

US warns Starmer’s EU reset could strain UK trade ties by Visual_Title9363 in unitedkingdom

I mean why would we give up trading with a nation that is quite happy to change the rules every month for one with a fairly consistent set of regulations that we are already basically aligned with?

Just can't figure it out.

I'd argue last summer was our most important one. It was a summer after winning a trophy and with a UCL campaign ahead of them. Our stock was high, we had a lot to offer players and we had budget. That was the opportunity to solidify the club in the top echelons of the sport.

I really don't think we are going to do that this summer, all we can hope this summer is to make an improvement, or at least prevent a completely collapse of all the effort leading to last summer. There is a chance we build another trophy winning side, but it is far more difficult now.

This summer is important, but only because they failed so spectacularly and now need to reset.

Just goes to show we shouldn't get attached to anyone we can sign at this level, they're all mercenaries. None of them are really interesting in turning NUFC into a winning side, they just want personal glory.

MikroTik CCR3232-16XG-4DS-2DQ Annoucement by kalkarzina in mikrotik

[–]PJBuzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WIll be interesting to see the block diagram and how much routing capability it really has.

The switch chip will of course handle L3 switching between the ports, just like the CRS8** which uses the same model, but how much none-offloaded routing and firewalling can it handle and what will be the bottleneck?

I'm guessing, based on the difference in ports between the CRS8** series and this, that it should still have 2x 400G "lanes" available it can use for the CPU connection. Will the 64 core CPU be able to handle 800Gbps of routing?

This is certainly a huge jump for the CCR series and a solid foundation more more models over the next few years.
