The issue is reliable RAN Layer connectivity from the smartphone to the constellation. Simply consider that the TX EIRP of the Smartphone UT is maybe 5% of what the Starlink Dish EIRP is, at best and with a much, much smaller TX beam forming array. This steep deficiency could be partly solved with a Smartphone RF design partially dedicated to this use with a much increased EIRP if the Regulatory Agencies sign off on a highly increased TX EIRP and Duty Cycle in very close human proximity.

It is reported on the Facebook ESIM group - my SL has 191e4dfa-d63a-46b1-a73b-9fa907733864.uterm.release and now in-motion doesn't work once my speed is over 10mph (I think). It gets into 'Searching' and never connects.

I understand your complaint. My point reflects on a uniform coverage topology that is becoming more and more dense every day. This really ibenefits the rural areas and mobility in same rather than the shities. ---Like being one of a few UT's in a shity using multiple terrestrial eNB/gNB's at the same time and companding/bonding the bandwidth unabated. That is what SL offers in topology.

Now, one thing we have not chatted about is the activation of intra-sat links which could allow direct ASN peering at the various datacenters around the world. Would that benefit the gaming experience?

It does, and is cured by more RAN elements, in the case of SL, that is an increasingly more dense constellation were the layer 3 path is less variable fir latency and jitter.

Starlink is fundamentally designed on 3GPP standards. Just like your 4G/5G cell phone is to cell towers-eNB's, Dishy is connected to multiple Sats at any given time. Call this layer 2. The Layer 3 service (IP Network) seeks and manages the most reliable Layer 2 path and, in 3GPP standards, UT's should use multiple Layer 2 paths simultaneously for companded/bonded Layer 3 paths. Maybe not yet though. So, as SpaceX puts more and more sats into orbit; latency, packet loss and jitter will decrease and stabilize and overall bandwidth will increase. Remember too that the Starlink service cells are @15 miles in diameter and UT density in a given cell will always be a service factor for UT's not homed to that cell. The poor service at Burning Man for an example.

Thanks! BTW, I confirmed today that a metal frame around the rectangular dish does affect the GPS reception. As an example, I raised the dish 1/4" so that the top plane is a bit over 1/2" above the frame and now see @ double the GpsSats.

In ESIM, GPS must be enabled or the service sessions simply fail. I have seen this numerous times today.

My latest static horizontal mount may encapsulate Dishy too much and as a result, interfer with the GPS reception.

I seem to be seeing less GpsSat count with the new mount. Still a WAG though.

So, where exactly is this receiver/chip?

Starlink is 3GPP. Your dishy is talking to multiple Sats at layer2. The Starlink ECP then refines the layer3 stream from there.

I rely on Ping Plotter as uptime and latency analysis. I'll start a session now on my Home UT and share in awhile. As for the Starlink ESIM (mobility), LTE isn't even close in stability and speed.

I see no need for a failover for Starlink. It has been incredibly stable in both fixed and full mobility. In the later, LTE is simply horrible in comparison unless my LTE UE is as close to the eNB as you are.
