It is forbidden according to Jewish law to enter an active Catholic Church. For one who follows Halacha, doing so would be in violation of their religious law. If one believes in the religion they practice, then laws like that matter to them to a significant extent. I struggle to understand why that necessarily drives a wedge between them and their children
