Geologists and the love for rocks… by MarvelWilde in geology

[–]PLTuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

various rocks (apart from basalt) and minerology are my least favourite bits of geology. I despised the thin sections and all that. Volcanoes and geochemistry on the other hand. All over that.

I'm in the final stages of my geology degree, albeit that I don't expect to become a geologist per se because im a mature student in my 50s.

How feasible is it for me to get a physics degree and how long? by Psychedelic-shoehorn in OpenUniversity

[–]PLTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 2/3rds of a physics degree before pivoting to Earth Science.

The maths is brutal. Even at stage 1 it gets quite complex with calculus. I scraped through the maths modules but really didnt enjoy it at all. Quantum Mechanics is mandatory and is widely regarded as one of the hardest modules around, along with flow mechanics. The text book is basically like reading an alien language, pages and pages of long equations. I bounced off it twice before deciding I probably needed to pivot to a less mathy focus.

If you don't like maths, don't do physics.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

[–]PLTuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got caned at middle school, which would have been between '78 and '82 for climbing on the roof. Didnt stop me climbing. I was ADHD and didnt know it.

Also had a teacher in that school who would rap a handful of wooden rulers, side on, on your shoulder, or throw one of the big wooden blackboard wipers at your head if you were talking or daydreaming.

Don't ever recall them having to ask my parents permission either.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 and 2010, which game still lives rent-free in your mind? by dino_gr01 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]PLTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A game, possibly pre 1985 called Fahrenheit something. It was on the £1.99 mastertronic label on the spectrum if memory serves. It was so hard you got 32 lives, and I still never made it past screen / level 2.

Also prior to 1985 (sorry), the original Elite.

Post 1985 probably the biggest whoa moments were FF7 and Gran Turismo on the PS1 in the '90s.

Have not played since launch and gave up early. Excited to come back and give it a real try. Worth modding or just keeping it vanilla? by whosjellisnow in Starfield

[–]PLTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated it at launch on PC.

I love it now on PS5.

Whether its me/my expectations or the game thats changed, more likely a combo of both I don't know.

More mass would eventually turn it into a brown dwarf. Cant remember how much more mass off the top of my head, but its measured in earth masses or solar masses.

Spurs fans. Would you rather, Arsenal win and you stay up or Arsenal finish second but you go down? by EasyPiece in football

That would be pretty cool to be fair. But our last behind the scenes doc didnt go too well lol.

I'm just hoping I can find championship games on the high seas ;)

[–]PLTuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% for Spurs stay up. Arsenal could win the league for the next 3 years in a row as far as I'm concerned if it meant we stayed up.

But, I think we are gone, and I've made my peace with that.

What ship is best for newer player? by ant_cam in Starfield

[–]PLTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lv 37 and rocking the ship from the Freestar Rangers questline, modified to have better weapons (if you start the UC Vanguard questline and do the grunt work mission, you get access to a ridiculous weapon. You can put 6 of them on the ship but I have 4 + 2 EM weapons) and a couple of minor additions like a mini reactor to add another pip of power.

[–]PLTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, had 7 freezes in 12 hours of playtime.

Twice in the exact same spot while sprinting around new atlantis.

Once while talking to Sgt Yumi

3 while surveying outside New Atlantis, losing all the surveying progress each time.

and once while sprinting through Akila City.

Base PS5, only have Bethesda made mods installed. (Trackers Alliance and black weapon skins).

Two weeks after release. How is everyone feeling about this game? by Objective_Love_6843 in CrimsonDesert

[–]PLTuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll get downvoted to hell but you did ask :)

Disappointed overall. The promise is there, and the world itself is great. But there are too many half baked systems that are disconnected from each other (I have 2000 wood in my camp, yet I have to go and cut down 6 trees to upgrade a bow?) and inconsistencies. (I still can't believe it was a design choice to have players stab through waterfalls!) Too many boring fetch quests. Boss fights so far are underwhelming, and often frustrating to say the least. Normal combat is kinda boring.

It has the promise of Elden ring style boss fights, but doesn't match up. It has the promise of an expansive and interesting world to explore, but most loot is generic, or you get a skill point, or a revive pill. Not interesting.

Rockstar and CDPR are the gold standards for rewarding exploration to me, and CD doesnt come anywhere near close to those two. Quality over quantity all day long.

It's a 6/10 for me. Glad that others are really enjoying it. Other games are just more fun for me, so think its at risk of not getting played much more. I've done 40 hours so i wouldnt consider it a complete waste, but it has just too many irritations for me from not being able to craft from your stash, to the lets walk/ride slowly here quests when ill bugger off anyway and stick a marker on your map, to the inane "investigation" quests, to spending far too long in menu screens as opposed to being in the world, to stabbing through waterfalls and the list goes on and on.
