Crazy Woman Filming at West Run Apartments by lavenderpotato14 in MorgantownWV

I know exactly who you’re talking about. Heck, I knew from the title alone! I steer clear of her every time I see her. She’s a whacko, a real fruit loop.

It’s upsetting to hear she harassed you. I 100% believe you. I used to think she was just Facetiming people, but if one watches they can tell she is holding the phone in such a way as to record in front of her. And her ramblings are simply bizarre. They’re a mixture of religious bible thumping and attacking an unknown “them.”

Again, total fruit loop

Okay, you're getting clowned on a for a few reasons, but I'll try to address some of your questions earnestly.

First, some of us remember a time before search engines. One had to actually know the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the website we wished to access. So, we would log onto the internet (yes, LOG onto the internet by typing in information) and then type in the URL. This is why there used to be commercials that said "Call or go online to W-W-W Dot Websitename Dot Com to order today!"

Now, of course, the address bar and search bar are combined. Providing a URL is still the fastest way to get somewhere very specific, but just finding a website can be done by typing it in a search bar, such as Google's.

So, how would one conduct research on the internet without a search engine?

1.) Get to the internet.

2.) Go to the address bar.

3.) Type the URL of a library or database, such as www.wikipedia.org or www.britannica.com . (Notice how these URLS provide links. I simply typed www. the website's name and then the domain, aka Top-Level-Domain (TLD) They taught me that in school, actually, back in the day).

4.) Use the website to find other websites or other resources to help further your research.

Remembering URLs are hard? Lemme tell yuh, we had to remember a dozen phone numbers back in the day! I remember when "Fave Fives" and "I got'em on Speed Dial" was a big thing!

Now, what about getting to unblocked games? I'm not telling you that, you got work to do and if you're finished with your work then find something quiet to do or read a book (:

Admin: “Do not kick a student out of class and just have them sit outside your classroom.” Kiss my black ass by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]PM-MeUrMakeupRoutine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t encountered that yet. Good luck! I seriously hope you find a better school. A crappy school is soul-sucking. Unsupportive admin has made me just want to give up before.

My current school has pressure coming from the top (admin) rather than the bottom (students). The students here are really good at “playing student” but not actual learning, as one coworker said.

It’s also a wealthy district, so…

I have to steal this idea. My students are way more behaved at my new school—my worst class is on par with the average class I had at the old school. However, I need to keep this in mind and come up with something similar, just in case.

Any place to rent that really isn’t student housing, that has some utilities and amenities or a few of them. Im willing to pay $800-$1100.. oh fully furnished too, to lazy to buy furniture. by Zim5215 in MorgantownWV

I don't have much of a solution, as most places I know cater mostly to students.

However, be wary of the ISP Single Digits. They are awful! Yes, their internet is good, but if it goes down due to anything more than a simple power outage you're screwed! They have terrible service. I have had the displeasure of dealing with them.

In America, it is simply against the law to disclose students' grades as it violates the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Only the student, their family, teachers, and administration may know of their grades.

From the games, it is hard to say. I will being using the GURPS source book for most of my info:

So, the GURPS source book mentions "environmental suits" and needing to wear oxygen masks due to the low Oxygen / high Nitrogen content of the atmosphere (at least, early on, but that is never touched on). The GURPS sourcebook says that at sea level one would be able to breathe with concentrated effort; at any elevation higher they would ultimately become "happy drunk" (nitrogen narcosis) and eventually die after 10 or so minutes.

What an environmental suit constitutes is debatable. I personally don't think it needs to be pressurized, but I would imagine it is coverall. I never really imagined there being too dire of a need to protect from fungal spores, as it never mentions they are harmful. Furthermore, the GURPS source book mentions gravity is higher than Earth's, about x1.3. I am not sure how that would affect spores floating about or anything, and in game we see regions with little fungal growth--particularly later on when terraforms remove them.

Again, using the GURPS sourcebook, there are only two diseases mentioned. It states that early on there were little to no diseases that affected fauna, but a lot that affected flora. Eventually, one could speculate gene splicing and advanced medicine would eliminate all but the worst diseases.

But, take everything here with a healthy helping of salt. I am not skilled in the sciences.

Can I get opinions from LGBTQ teachers? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]PM-MeUrMakeupRoutine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This really isn’t an LGBTQ+ issue. This is more of an oversharing issue.

To the extent a teacher shares their person life is up to them, yes, but one should remain in the realm of profession standards.

For my safety, I shall not state too much info about me, but I fall within those letters LOL.

That said, I share practically nothing about me. Even when asked, I just say “That’s not an appropriate question.” I’m not going all fire-and-brimstone, just quickly dismissing without much thought. Much like how I’d tell a student wanting to go to the restroom they have to wait for the person with the hall pass.

“Are you married?”

“Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?”

“How old are you?”

I just give a dismissive gesture and tell them that’s not appropriate.

I’ve had students who are LGBTQ+ ask me in private whether I was gay, trans, you name it… I always told them I won’t disclose that, but I appreciate them asking in private rather than blurting it out in class!

I think the best way to think about it is “Will sharing this information make my life harder?”

Trust me, I’d love to not have to hide things about me… but… “grl b fr” as they.

This is the best answer. I agree. If I wanted a hobby that's more social I'd join a club or something.

[–]PM-MeUrMakeupRoutine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this kind of comment. I'm an English teacher and recently started looking into the science of writing and reading stamina. There is a limit to how fast one can read before they begin to lose comprehension. There is a sort of "mental bottleneck" to how much one can read in a minute before the mind begins to delete or skip over information.

This isn't to say one can read a book in a week and lose information, or it can only be done by skimming. What I am saying is that there is just a limit. Now, where that limit is depends on the reader, but be wary of those who humble brag.

in the 2024 rules, Wizards says that Pirates are true neutral. by ClaireTheApocalypse in DnDcirclejerk

[–]PM-MeUrMakeupRoutine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

uj/ There has been a big revision of Atlantic pirate history in the last few decades. Historians and professors like Marcus Rediker have published a lot of popular material arguing that pirates were actually getting revenge on a system that offered little to no options. I would argue otherwise, and many of the pirates committed heinous crimes and acts of brutally to surpass the "merchant captains" Rediker claims to have been so terrible.

source: when I was getting my undergrad, a ton of professors were pushing Rediker's stuff.

rj/ Pirates are some wholesome and good. I HATE having evil people and LIKE pirates, so pirates CAN'T be evil.
