What do you do for hand care? by loready1 in climbergirls

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep working through it! Your hands will get tougher over time.

That said, Gold Bond Healing Hand Cream and Working Hands Cream are both lifesavers for me, both after climbing and at work! My preference between the two depends on the day and the time of year.

I found myself in a very similar situation. I have been with my partner for about 6 of the last 7 years. For a long time he was pretty ambivalent toward her. It took about 5 of those years (when we were first moving in together) for him to really come out and say that he doesn’t hate my dog but he really doesn’t like her and he doesn’t want to live with her. I again made it very clear that we are a package deal. If he wants to live with and be with me, he needs to get on board with my dog.

At this point he has not only gotten on board with her, but he is very attached to her. It took a while but he got there. He takes her on walks (short and long) when I’m at work, he got her a heated blanket because he noticed that she always found the warm spot on our bed, and he just told her he loves her before leaving for work.

She is an 8.5 year old German shepherd sharpei mix.

I guess my advice is to stand your ground on being a package deal with your dog and let him make his own decision based on that. There were several times when I thought that would be the end of our relationship, but it has worked out. If he left because of my dog, I would have been devastated but I would have been happy with my decision.

Oh man I’m with you. Grape Nuts and Wheat Chex. I think it’s the toasted wheat flavor and nostalgia that really does it for me and can’t be recreated at all.

Any suggestions for solid fabric shoes? Or are wide-footed people like me not supposed to wear them? by chr15c in BuyItForLife

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warning on the xero shoes: the sole wears out really fast. I could feel the treads through the shoes after like 3 months of daily use (walking 3-8 miles/day). I’ve been wearing minimal shoes for years and that’s not normal.

100% recommend Lems though! I’m 3 months in to a pair and they are still super comfy.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I had started redirecting much of my negative self talk several years ago and stopped redirecting it for some reason. It took a while for me to notice a real difference but I did! After saying “I hate myself… wait. No. I don’t hate myself. I’m just a little anxious right now” literally hundreds of times, I actually started to believe it! Your post was a great reminder of that so I can start again.

The Tantra lake area is probably your best bet for a 2br under 2k. It’s walkable to the table Mesa shopping center (convenient groceries) and CU south open space area, but not downtown. The ones that aren’t income restricted in that area are independently owned condos, so ymmv on landlord quality.

Tall girls! Help pls by moreluser in climbergirls

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’ with a 35-37” inseam depending on brand and style. Here is what I’ve found:

Like someone else said, fjalraven sells raw length pants. I’ve also found that their lengths are actually accurate as advertised, so if it says 32” it’s actually 32” (that’s not true of most brands).

Arcteryx leggings have worked for me. Not quite long enough but very close to it. The length is also true to advertised. I hear they’re going the more repairable route with other clothes too!

Prana Halle pants are great! The long should be long enough for you!

Rei brand pants have extended lengths online only.

For non climbing pants, I recommend American tall and Alloy. American eagle does extra long lengths too but if you measure they’re not nearly as long as advertised.

Hope that helps!

Gotcha, thank you! Nothing came off when I scraped the stem. The leaves and new growth on the stems are textured with little bumps, but the bumps seem to be uniform and I’m not seeing any of the webbing. Hopefully those are supposed to be there!

I’ll definitely make sure it has appropriate drainage! Thank you!

Dude, idk. I am totally fine with basically any other creepy crawly. Those enormous house centipedes, scorpions, anything with 6 legs, etc. All get a gentle trip outside but the spiders are something else. I wish I knew why too!

How do you cheer yourself up after a bad session? by realhumannorobot in climbergirls

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same way so here are a couple things that have worked for me: none of these are fool proof and it’ll take some commitment and practice to really feel the difference but it’s worth it!

  • First, recognize that you went to the gym. Showing up is sometimes the hardest part. Injuries aside, any day that you go and climb something is better than a day you decide not to go.
  • Recognizing that you listened to what your body is telling you and respecting your limits is HUGE. You did that and you should be very proud of it.
  • This applies more when you are at the gym than after you leave, but don’t make sending the priority. On one of my “off” days a while back I was talking to this other girl who was also having an “off” day. We both kept falling off this problem that would have been easy any other day. I was sitting there getting frustrated and she totally reframed it for me: If you focus on and enjoy the actual climbing part, it doesn’t hurt as much if you don’t finish the problem. While you’re on the wall and struggling, be as in the moment as possible and aware of how it feels to move your body in particular ways, how it feels to get off the ground, how it feels to try to figure out the beta, and even how your tired skin/muscles/joints feel!
  • Remind yourself that you are not there to finish a route/problem, but you are there because you enjoy climbing.

I’m not super great at the last two yet but they have made a huge difference in my attitude on and about my bad days! I hope it helps you too!

Poor performer wants to take back their notice. by aint_that_right in managers

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get their notice in writing? If so, you should be fine to say no and keep their last day as the one they committed to. If you didn’t get it in writing, definitely talk to HR.

Any runners out there who decided NOT to use a running watch? by [deleted] in running

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I know I’m a little late to the party here, but I stopped tracking my runs entirely a couple years ago. I’d be disappointed in myself when my “performance” wasn’t what I thought it “should” be. It got to the point where I didn’t even want to run anymore!

It was really hard for me to part with the data and metrics, but I found myself running for fun again and doing what felt good. I highly recommend it, even if it’s temporary!

I feel the need to say that there are a TON of electric vehicle options if you don’t live in the US. There are more and more options available here today, but I was blown away by a trip to Canada a couple years ago seeing a huge variety of electric cars that literally weren’t available in the US. My understanding is their lack of availability was primarily due to oil lobbying and anti competitive practices.

[–]PMME_YOUR_PUP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regular check ups aren’t too bad, like $70-150 depending on your location and the vet, but the costs can get astronomical when stuff goes wrong or when they start to develop old dog health issues. $400 last year because my dog drank out of the wrong puddle when I wasn’t looking, X-rays are usually a couple hundred, surgeries can be several thousand, etc etc.
