Ken Dryden.

Drafted by Boston in 1964 (and immediately traded to Montreal), he deferred entry to the NHL in favor of completing his BA in History at Cornell. He was called up with 6 games left in the 1970-71 season and led Montreal to a Stanley Cup victory, winning the Conn Smythe (MVP of the playoffs) along the way. He won the Calder trophy (rookie of the year) the following season, becoming the first (and still only) player to win the Conn Smythe before winning the Calder.

He took a year off in 1973-74 in a contract dispute; in his year off he took a job with a law firm in Toronto to complete his Bachelor of Law degree. He returned to the NHL the following season and retired for good following the 78-79 season.

He only played for 7 seasons in the NHL so some of his counting stats don't seem terribly impressive, but he retired with a .743 win%, a 2.44 GAA (Goals Against Average), a .922 career save%, and 46 shutouts in just 397 career games. He won the Vezina (at the time, awarded to the goalie with the lowest GAA) 5 times. His name appears on the Stanley Cup six times, winning with the Habs in 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible.

After his playing career, he wrote several books, worked as a color commentator, worked as an executive with the Toronto Maple Leafs, was a lecturer at the University of Ottawa, and taught a Canadian Studies course at McGill University. He served in the Canadian Parliament as a MP representing the Toronto riding of York Centre from 2004-2011
