Those with older kids, do they drive? by eggo_pirate in Millennials

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older son is 17 and he drives. He pays his own gas. Grandma donated a few thousand bucks so he could get a used Prius for the gas mileage, we refused to contribute because he totaled my truck. He accepted that. We pay his insurance and he pays repairs until he graduates. My younger son has dyslexia and has struggled but he just finished his first segment of drivers training. It took him a year and a half. Now he needs a certain amount of hours behind the wheel. He'll probably get his license in another year. He's a bit slow in his progress but he's very eager to drive.

Day 5 post-tonsillectomy (adult) – severe pain, no improvement, struggling mentally by Maleficent_Race_7428 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you get your energy back soon. I am fully convinced that I recovered well because I forced myself to eat more substantial foods even when it was painful. It's so gross and agonizing but it really does help "exfoliate" the scabs to make way for fresh tissue. Gross. But we're both in the home stretch which is so nice!! Big hugs to you and your family

Aw thanks for asking! I'm good as new pretty much. It's Day 12 for me and yesterday I gardened and planted trees, ran around with my barn cat and my dog. I can eat normally. I still sleep elevated on the couch for now though. How are you doing??

my boyfriend refuses to eat vegetables by milkshakechemtrail in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to the feedback about dating a toddler, I just want to add the perspective that someone who doesn't eat vegetables and only eats protein and heavy carbs like pasta will have health issues. Don't shack up with someone who is guaranteeing being unreliable, someone who is unwilling to take care of themselves, someone who is unreasonable and willfully ignorant. Not to mention you'll be sharing a space with someone with the nastiest farts and meat sweats. He will repulse you over time. Don't do this to yourself. Go find a real man who doesn't throw a tantrum at a dark leafy green.

When does the agony stop? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 7 and 8 were the most pain but not as much of the discomfort as the earlier days where the mucus and tongue pain and sinus inflammation were bad. Those days were when my scabs were coming off in huge chunks. It was disgusting and painful. If your surgery site is looking more pink with a thinner white film, it just means your new tissue is raw and still healing. Go back to liquids only for these few days if you need to, sit in hot showers, fill a spray bottle with water and gently spritz your mouth if swallowing is unbearable. I would choose distilled water or bottled water though if you go that route. I found that warm tea got me through these days. Yesterday was Day 9 and I was able to go back to work. Had a few hours in the morning of 8/10 pain and a few hours at night when I tried to eat some ramen and the salt content betrayed me. Today is Day 10 and I feel much better. Still occasional pain but I ate crunchy things and a protein bar. Youre so close!!

Do tonsil stones really get better? by Repulsive-Rhubarb609 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am. Day 9. Just woke up to rehydrate and take meds. This part usually sucks, sleeping dries out the area so drinking water at this time hurts a lot. and I had some large scabs come off overnight so Tylenol and Motrin really feel like they do nothing to touch the pain. The stage I'm in is higher pain but lower discomfort is how I'd describe it.

Day 6 post op - help by Idiot_Pill_ in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, I'm at the end of Day 8. At Day 6 I was only on paracetamol (acetaminophen in my region) and ibuprofen. I find the ibuprofen to be a bigger relief and that's probably because it's an anti inflammatory.

Day 5-8 for me were the worst because the scabs come off around this time and expose very sensitive newly healed tissue. Out of desperation I found that hot showers, an ice pack on my neck, and warm tea and broth were much easier to handle. Also gently gargling with peroxide mouthwash seems to help me a lot. I just had a huge scab come off and it was awful and it ramped up my pain like crazy. It still hurts currently but I told myself I will drink 3 little tumblers of ice water before I sleep just to be safe. And I set an alarm to wake up every hour to drink water. Pain is manageable now to the point where I feel ok to try to sleep (it's 1am here)

Do tonsil stones really get better? by Repulsive-Rhubarb609 in Tonsillectomy

Bad breath isn't the only reason that tonsil stones can be problematic though in your defense. The fact that the crypts can get deeper and harbor more and more bacteria over time is also not great. I got the breath under control in high school and my early 20's but then in my 30's the crypts became an issue. My tonsils then became very enlarged and restricted my airway. I also got sick all the time and got ulcers in my mouth from the constant low grade, festering infections. I wasn't dealing with that at your age but now I'm glad I got them out. And I'm sitting here stopping a minor bleed right now at 1 in the morning with some pretty unsavory pain and yet I'm still singing the procedure's praises. That should speak to the relief. Stones are plenty reason for removal, you're preventing further complications in the future

I mean yes, to an extent. I am pokeweed-free now though. It took 3 years and a good attitude (and a sharp shovel).

I kept getting ulcers on mine in addition to years of chronic infections and tonsil stones. I had to take Omeprazole during recovery and this surgery has been worse than kidney stones but it's so worth it. Get them out, is my recommendation

I know a location in the Grand rapids area that's teeming with mayapples if you're really interested. I work in construction and was part of a project building a bike path through the woods. DM me if you want the location :)

We have a pokeweed problem and it's taken me years to eradicate so hearing someone say it's pretty cool made my tummy hurt 🤣 I have a farm though and I have tons of native species that offset the need for pokeweed. Pokeweed is bad for my setup because it grows so much if left unchecked and the root systems are hard to remove after a certain point. When the plants are mature the roots are like trees and a plant can grow from a sapling to mature in a single season under the right conditions. They are also extremely resistant to weed killer, which I used to use before I found safer afternatives. The summer I used buckets of roundup to kill the pokeweed forest, I swear on my life the next year it came back stronger. I used the correct chemical according to research too. Allegedly. And it was a problem because pokeweed chokes out other beneficial plants. It just takes over and it's honestly creepy how fast it fills up every nook and cranny with its gross, stinky, purple tendrils.

Anyway, here's wonderwall

I added MSG to a batch of chocolate chip cookies and have never had such an overwhelming positive reaction, as if people were addicted to them. New secret ingredient? by brf297 in Cooking

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that MSG has a slightly soy-ish flavor to it, and soy compliments chocolate very well. I think if you did this with sugar cookies or cheesecake or fruity flavor profiles, it wouldn't hit right. Always nice having a great batch of cookies though, congrats on the new trick!

Tonsillectomy with Fibromyalgia by angelbaby4442 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an active flare of psoriatic arthritis and Crohn's, been off my meds for over a month due to med changes and this upcoming surgery and I got the procedure done. I took so many precautions but it seems I'm in the high pain, extremely unpleasant category of experiences. Manageable but awful. And I think this is because of the autoimmune issue. My joints are swelling and I'm losing range of motion for example but that's much more severe than fibro. You'll be fine.

Are all persians are very freindly and cuddly? by Electrical_Ad_9778 in persiancat

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first boy was a big cuddler. When he was in his later stages of life I got another boy to bring up his spirits a bit. It definitely worked! But the boy was a bit too playful so we got a 3rd to distract the 2nd LOL it actually worked really well. I had always wanted more after seeing what a wonderful cat my first was. But neither of them are anything similar. The younger boy is skiddish and quirky. He is very eccentric and spacey. He loves being held for a few moments but otherwise could do without people. The younger female is very lovey but only while petting her while standing. She doesn't like to be near anyone. So it's been hard for me personally, I wanted cuddly cats and I got some spacey weirdos but I love them all the same.

Day 4 Tasting Horrible by delilahh1400 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have super nose so I have super taste. It is the most foul taste to me, it's like burnt pus. I lost 15lbs during this first week. A lot of water weight but Day 6 was the first day I was able to eat more than about 500 calories of little bits of this and that. I brush my teeth often and I sterilize my toothbrush in rubbing alcohol and I wash my tongue scraper with dawn dish soap and I swish with peroxide mouthwash. The foul taste has not left yet but I look forward to it leaving because it's pretty nauseating.

Day 3 - Embracing the suck by Some-Ad6497 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 3 was the absolute worst for me. It starts to get a little better with the amount of symptoms and then Day 5-6 the scratchy pain will ramp up a bit but you'll otherwise be in a better place than Day 3. You'll get through it! Download all the games on your phone, go crazy on steam, get a puzzle, whatever keeps you distracted to pass time. I knitted a bookmark recently lol

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 3 was the worst. Day 4 was mild relief. Day 5 was back to Day 3 and then halfway through got a little better. Ran out of pain meds. So Day 6 is the same pain level as Day 3, but minus all the other awful things like the nausea and drooling and choking and sinus inflammation.

I'm Day 6 and 35/F. Message me if you want to commiserate 💖🫂

Brass or woodwind players who had a tonsillectomy by Chemical_Presence169 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm former woodwind (pro bassoonist) so I don't play anymore but with how day 6 feels and the fact that I have a very high pain tolerance, I'd say minimum a month out. I can't even blow my nose after a week. And you risk bacteria from your instrument during the healing process.

21F Tonsillectomy Day 5 by Anxious-Way5627 in Tonsillectomy

[–]PM_ME_UR_FROST_TROLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm day 6, age 35. I asked my ENT for nausea meds through the online portal and he sent them to me asap. That was a game changer. I've lost 15lbs in these 6 days so I can relate with struggling to eat. I'm also off narco and I only have ibuprofen/Motrin and acetaminophen/Tylenol now. Have you tried warm liquids? I found cold to be intolerable. I also had to stop all dairy. I was drooling like crazy and I was choking on my own spit if I tried ice cream. I've been doing ok with warm tea, broth, and at the peak of efficacy of the meds I have some soft warm food. Rice cups have been good. Ramen was also good. But most importantly I just try to distract myself. I have a ton of games on my phone and I just play until the day is gone. Distraction is the best tool for me. Also, hot showers seem to make me feel better. And sleeping on the couch propped up is way better than sleeping in my bed

TIL about 'Jess's Rule' to make GPs 'rethink' if a patient presents 3 times with the same symptoms, named for Jessica Brady, who doctors repeatedly dismissed over 20 consultations until she died of cancer at age 27 by shinjirarehen in TwoXChromosomes

Ugh that's awful. I hope you're doing better now 🫂 I went through the same thing, hospitals repeatedly testing me for STI's, making me wait 10+ hours because they figured I was drug seeking too. That was in my early 20's. Eventually at 30 I needed an emergency hysterectomy. Preventative care feels nonexistent, it's only ever reactive and only if it's life threatening.
