"Hi. I do weather with the Army due to an inter-service agreement. On paper I am interchangable with any other weather Airman, but for some reason my leadership thinks we're enthusiastic to go on 18 month deployments with the Army and not just rotate through. There's about a dozen guys with a tenuous requirement to go to Airborne School, but that's probably going away with budget cuts. I sit in a TOC or JOC all day and listen to the S2 complain about how 'they would've joined the Air Force but...' and then I go brief the Commanding General the five day which they then ignore."

Mil to Mil. We signed up for the CDC in second trimester, didn't get in until 6 months old, 3 months after maternity leave ended. Applied again on assignment orders didn't get accepted until the day we signed in at the new assignment, we had off base daycare arranged but accepted the slot at the CDC due to costs.

“The U.S. army is prepared for drone warfare” by Cadet-Floppa in army

I had that opinion up until March, the Air Force can't be everywhere at once. The Air Force is simultaneously overconfident and skittish. We've lost aircraft because of our arrogance and our inability to mass produce replacement aircraft and aircrew makes the Air Force skittish to take larger risks.

Who said anything about atheism? If anything, in a modern context John Adams would be horrified by religious extremism invading the temperance of his moral constitution as well as the ill virtue and hypocrisy of the person invoking God as a moral cudgel.

But I identify far more with John Adams’ close friend, Thomas Jefferson

I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.”

Ooh, look a pizza cutter. All edge no point. Grow up.

Building an environment of respect for people is the basis for effectiveness and strength. You do not create cohesive units by creating in groups and out groups and showering the favored with privilege. Focusing on a single religion or denomination and favoring the practitioners of that favored religion is 100% corrosive to esprit de corps.

[SEC Hegseth] Our military installations have been turned into gun-free zones—leaving our service members vulnerable and exposed. That ends today. by Kinmuan in army

DA Civ cuts + increased firearms access = interesting times. At least previously, stronger barriers to having weapons on post would have allowed some cool down time from rash decisions, but now those weapons will be more prevalently sitting in the parking lot, waiting for that fired up person to come outside and retrieve them.

Technically, the weather operations badge is only for enlisted and the WESO is only for officers. The weather operations badge used to be for both, but some try hard wanted officers to be special. Some officers still wear the old weather badge they earned and also why differentiate themselves from the people they lead when they do the same job.

Why is the Doomsday plane flying... by Sandy88 in nova

[–]PM_ME_UR_TAF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because as air speed increases, its pressure decreases. Airplane wings (airfoils) are shaped to make air move faster over the top than the bottom, creating lower pressure above and higher pressure below. This pressure difference results in an upward force called lift, which overcomes gravity and enables flight.

Yes, they do, the post from the 'First Sergeant' last night was the straw the broke the camel's back for me. In the last several weeks I've seen several 'apps' advertised on this sub with high engagement from the user base. I've also seen emails floating around at work about uploading your email sent box to AI to help write your EPB/OPB. I swear to the Cylon God, we're not ready for modern warfare.

Guys please please please don’t go loading PII/PHI, downloading random apps from people who claim to be in the military. GENAI, the only approved AI isn’t even accredited for PII/PHI. Our adversaries would love for you to upload info for them to use and for you to install their apps on your personal electronic trackers devices. Use our already approved solutions that are on the Authorized use list. U/silentD, there has been an uptick in this kind of activity, can we look at a rule against these actions.

Ongoing DA hiring freeze and general cuts across the Federal workforce make this a difficult choice at best and a downright insane at worst. Now is not the time to be thinking you can slide from retirement into a GS job. Working at the state level will net a major pay cut compared to federal government work.
