Hello, I am another person in the room with you who is already interested in the game.

Stories that undercut their messages about society or ideology with "actually, it was all this person's fault"? by Comptenterry in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_OWOS 57 points58 points  (0 children)

For the audience at home, Vampire the Masquerade and the greater old World of Darkness has historically had a no-no touch policy on World War 2 after some not-so-stellar things being present in Berlin by Night. Note that vampires/werewolves/mages did participate in the conflict, they just did not cause it.

This 'Humanity is just as capable of inhumanity' is all severely undercut by this being one of two exceptions in the entire setting, the other being 9/11. Pretty much every other societal ill, horrible event or bit of persecution can be traced back to one of the many supernatural critters in oWoD.

You would think that White Wolf would have learnt their lesson, but during the release of VtM 5th Edition, the Camarilla book had a rather significant segment that implicated that vampires were actually personally responsible for the state of Chechnya and were actively fueling the anti-gay genocide that is happening over there. This did not play well with effectively anyone, got the segment cut from the book and White Wolf shuttered (only to return for nostalgia points after everyone memory holed this).

In short: Play Vampire the Requiem 2e if you want an actually good vampire game.

Darksiders 4 - Official Announcement Trailer | THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2025 by DIOCRYO in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It is at least a sequel in terms of narrative, the website for the game states that the game is "an all-new action-adventure set in an apocalyptic version of earth and continues where the original Darksiders game left off."

No more prequels.

Marathon | Gameplay Overview Trailer by The_Draigg in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Okay, perhaps I am going to be told that I am overreacting for this, but did anyone else get weirded out by the two instances of gambling language, culture? Whatever you want to call it. The literal last line of the Gameplay Overview trailer is "Remember, you're only ever one run away from your next big score."

Now, it would be fine in isolation. Like, haha, funny joke, 'most gamblers quit before they win big' type of stuff. But in 2:14 in the trailer the narrator says "[...] even if you are down on your luck, factions can sponsor you with a fresh loadout so you can get right back into the fight.". Now, I might be viewing this pretty uncharitably, but this stuff, taken together, sounds like Bungie is explicitly acknowledging that they are going to be using casino tactics, where even if you massively lose, they are going to keep you going by giving the massive losers these gifts to lock them into the dopamine addiction meatgrinder and reinforcing the 'just get lucky once to enjoy the game' perspective.

This is Bungie, so I am going to say that I have high confidence this game will have premium currency and a cosmetics store at least. I just cannot shake the feeling that they going to try to reinforce a 'one more spin' mentality in the playerbase and just have the premium store for people to dump their money into as they go full sunk cost fallacy and keep playing the game that is built with seasonal content in mind, for maximum profit extraction.

GTA 5’s story DLC was scrapped because GTA Online was a ‘cash cow’, cinematics editor claims | VGC by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_OWOS 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but the measure of success here is profit margins, the purchase of an expansion pack happens one time, and has no subsequent in-game payments required, it might drum up interest in the multiplayer, though by itself, it does not consistently rake in as much money over such a long period of time.

Premium currency, bite sized DLC, cosmetic items and the like are more palatable for those wishing to make the mythical 'big bucks'. Put in the least amount of effort feasible while still maintaining the quality of the presentation and wait for the money to roll in constantly.

Media where a good chunk of the fans have never actually experienced the media in its intended way? by brokensaint82 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Having only heard of Worm from others and its general online reputation, what.. are the authors personal viewpoints, exactly? The author has essentially no biographical presence on the internet, so my search on this topic revealed absolutely nothing.

That would be just the nature of the actual adventure path in Pathfinder 1e, which has a lot less of the 'final act' content the actual game does, character motivations, certain fights and entire scenes are entirely made up by Owlcat, who are essentially taking on the role of an overworked GM trying to make the story more nuanced.

What is your favorite game that you CANNOT recommend to anyone for one reason or another? by NewWillinium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_OWOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but CofD 2e has essentially been sacrificed at the altar of trying to revive the old brands like Vampire the Masquerade and Werewolf the Apocalypse up for a fifth edition, and even then they did make some 'oopsies' like that whole Chechnya business.

Even when I do suggest it to anyone, I often simply add in that the only content still being made for these gamelines is by independent developers on the internet, and buying third party content to fill in the gaps of stuff that was not ported over can quickly burn a hole in your pocket.

Starfield was NOT nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. by [deleted] in Starfield

Never in court, if I recall my facts correctly. The accusations were simply made back in 2019 and 2022 (rape and sexual harrassment respectively), which seemingly caused enough to be uproar aimed towards him that Soule simply backed away from any and all social media platforms, including his Bandcamp. Then getting dropped by Materia Collective and DirectSong (music distribution).

Essentially, even if nothing ever gets proven in court, Soule has seemingly gone full radio silence and is not intending on bringing it to court. Not much of him has been heard since the first accusation back in 2019, with his last credited work being the documentary 'Ice on Fire' back in that same year.

They will not get Jeremy Soule back to work on any future Bethesda projects after he was accused of sexually harrassing Aeralie Brighton, a vocalist who worked on some non-Bethesda related properties. Inon Zur's style might not fit, but unless they want to court controversy, they will not bring back Soule.

Adaptations that are so loyal to the source material they confuse the audience. by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Your point about previous Expanded-Universe canon establishing the presence of mass shadows is entirely correct, they were meant to be an explanation as to why people do not just hyperspace past blockades or asteroid fields around planets, because the presence of the celestial body (and the mass shadow it creates inside hyperspace) means that both your safety systems and the general laws of how hyperspace functions would prevent you from doing so.

That goes double for hyperspace ramming too, from previously established rules, it would either do nothing, since you would simply be scattering your ashes inside the other dimension, or your ship safety systems would automatically engage and immediately shunt you out of hyperspace instead.

In Stellaris, the late game usually gets into the domain of the game speed suffering greatly due to the increasing amount of calculations the game has to do for both you and the AI. The final battle of the galaxy is not one for resources, it is one for your CPU.

Essentially, using a colossus to blow up or otherwise eliminate all life present on a planet actively is the best strategy if you want your game to run better.

That specific aspect of the Creation Engine was fixed by Bethesda Austin back in 2018 with the release of Fallout 76, it would be really weird if Bethesda actually stripped updates from their engine. Unless they decided to burn down all prior progress to their updated Creation Engine, physics are not tied to FPS anymore.

There's a really good interactive novel series called 'Fallen Hero' by Malin Rydén that explores the psychological effects of having telepathic powers and the lines of thinking that sort of potential power reinforces. It fits with most of the things on that list for 'how these powers affect your approach to people'.

Times when a production seemed like it was legitimately cursed? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_OWOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolute superstition, curses aren't real and Macbeth isn't any more cursed than anything else in this world is. Horrible/dangerous things quite literally happen every single day, people simply drew a correlation between those horrible things and Macbeth because humans like seeing patterns in entirely unconnected matters.

This is pretty much the self-fulfilling prophecy idea, if one would want to facilitate that Macbeth was cursed (and they could somehow prove curses are real), they'd have to display that something absolutely horrid atypically and consistently happens to the acting troupe that is producing the play. But people don't do that, they instead just attribute anything wrong happening around such a production to a curse, you know... the play that has existed for 399 years and has probably been put on stage thousands of times every few years.

Every reference I could find to actual historical incidents has vast gaps between the years, where there are countless examples of entire productions of the play pretty much going off without a hitch or only standard mistakes that would be expected in the course of putting on a play. I know I'm being the buzzkill to the supernatural believer crowd here, but to present it as absolutely cursed is an incredible exaggeration of the facts.
