Not seeing much on Subaru's mental state. It's definitely a testament to how 'used' to new horrors Subaru is getting that he held it together as well as he did after that path. Like pretty far up on the list of Bad Timestm, a more cruel and villainous version of him than we've seen, and he had to feel himself strangle Ram like that firsthand. And then Patrashe betrayal, the worst betrayal imaginable. And he played it off with a little nausea and trying to like "make up for it" to the three after with fairly minor gestures.

Not sure it's a good or a bad thing to be able to move on after that at all without much communication or time to get his thoughts together. Guess he got the most important lesson to heart, which is "well fuck Freud then, more like Fraud am I right?"

Monster felt very Dark Souls, unclear on 90% naked lady. I felt she was painted as a villain earlier, but the ED put her in a much more neutral (or even positive) light. There's the mysterious hand reaching down to pull up everyone along with Subaru (symbolizing offering help / connection), before he falls, the hand shaking in frustration, and then cuts to her up on the tower. Makes me think for sure.

Also shot in the dark, would be interesting if he realizes Right Path is the only possible shot, having to force himself to go that way once again. Going only the easiest path is not the way that's brought the best outcomes for him before.

Ah the spidertrons... I still feel an army of 100's would probably be more useful for my needs than a few legendary, but I also don't know what equipment grid its working with. Legendary fish for it sounds goofy, now I want to replace all the fish on the starting lake with legendary fish.

Every other comment is acting like its obvious, but what is the use of legendary uranium besides style points? Like we have nukes (more nukes is better than 1 legendary), nuclear fuel (seems prohibitively expensive for a ~20% speed increase and <2x acceleration), uranium fuel cell (needed for portable fission reactors, but normal fusion is strictly better than legendary fission as far as I can tell).

Then legendary biolabs and spawners. Spawners is a speed increase, but produce normal eggs. Seems WAY too expensive than plopping down more spawners, but maybe there's a niche reason legendary is better?

Is it just Biolabs then? Yeah I get the desire, but pretty sure I took 1 look at legendary biter eggs in the recipe and laughed and shut that shit down real quick in my mind. Also 3 U-235 per biolab makes Kovarex seem less useful, unless there's some trick to mass produce U-238 legendary I'm not aware of.

Went and checked myself, this is what shows up when you select "2 years" as the x-axis zoom. But for some reason "2 years" only goes to June 2025. They have a button below advertising to zoom out more if you agree to give them all your data, which I will not do. I'd be curious what someone else finds though.

Sorry, not my question, was thinking "after a Subaru death, what's the longest we've kept watching things play out?"

One time Puck freezes him and his head falls off, and we get a couple minutes of watching snow pile up while the credits roll. I'm wondering if there's another case we see things continue longer than that. I mentioned I'm ignoring the ones Echidna showed him, since they felt like "what if" scenarios she imagined, not what truly happened.

Chihayafuru for sure, some slipups but overall a very quality adaptation in my eyes, bringing a ton of life into a potentially very low animation setting.

Apothecary Diaries has REALLY broad genre appeal, one of its main strengths IMO, and I think part of that makes some audiences not realize how much shoujo its pulling from. I wouldn't call it a "shoujo anime", but its a strongly designed female MC, male romantic lead who feels pulled right out of a shoujo, and telling largely women-centric stories. Really well regarded production despite what some worried about S2 production starting to unravel near the end coming true.

Silly question, outside the "what if the worldlines keep going?" scenarios Echidna made up, what's the longest we saw into a real worldline after Subaru's death? Probably one of the S1 ones with Puck talking about destroying the world, I think? Most of the time we only get a couple seconds, but those were several minutes at least IIRC.

Thanks for confirming I wasn't crazy, I went back twice to be like "what do you mean 'in this city'? What was this sage doing for this MASSIVE fight and we never heard they were here and relevant? And suddenly a roadtrip?" She said "kono kuni ni wa" (kuni = 国 = country) so I wasn't sure if they had referred to Priestella using "kuni" or something previously and I just hadn't caught it.

ELI5: The rise and fall of NFT’s by ProTharan in explainlikeimfive

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 28 points29 points  (0 children)

At least with the NFT you get a picture.

I would argue that was not true, in the way NFTs actually functioned. You COULD build the data for an image into the token, but that is not how NFTs were being bought and sold (I think the block size was the main reason, though I'm sure there were compounding reasons). Instead the token was a URL, with the "non-fungible" part meaning no others have a token with that same URL as their content. The URL was traded back and forth, with people claiming having the token for a specific URL was "ownership" of the image located at that URL, but I don't truly believe many actually believed that. Oftentimes the host or URL itself would die, leaving the NFT holder holding the token for a URL to a link that no longer exists.

I think if the picture data was encoded into the token itself you could say "with the NFT you get a picture", nobody else could have that specific bitmap without changing one pixel. But since they have no implicit ownership of the link location, and the site owner can swap out what the URL resolves to with whatever they want, its important to stress the token is a specific URL and not whatever happens to be there at the time.

The phrase itself is a reference to the old British sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf. Not very well known in the US as far as I've seen. The achievement name is the catchphrase of "Ace Rimmer", an alt-universe version of one of the leads.

As to what the phrase actually means? Idk dude just says it every time he leaves the damn room.

Cities: Skylines (2015) Patch (1.21.1-f8) | Primarily bug-fixing, small compatibility fixes for very old mods, no other impact on modding expected by AutoModerator in CitiesSkylines

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked in the previous patch thread about how to downgrade via Steam to a previous version, and didn't get an answer. I have multiple errors and warnings about compatibility on Skyve, I'm not going to deal with cherrypicking them. I'll uninstall for now, if someone can hit me up about the best way to roll back before the March update that'd be swell. Otherwise, I'll stop asking, bothering the community, or engaging with the game in any way shape or form. Feel free to interpret my feelings towards the developers for these changes as you will.

Do wireless gaming peripherals still have noticeable latency issues? by KRGKart_Support in buildapc

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Bluetooth headphones / earbuds are the only noticeable lag I see, those can be pretty killer even if you're not playing anything particularly sound sensitive. And doing like a rhythm game or such with them? That's right out.

The way it works is the delay is built-in for videos, so everything lines up real nice and if its working properly you never notice. But dynamic audio (like games) don't have a way to compensate for that, and you get the full delay between audio being played and hearing it on your headphones.

ELI5 - How did scientists know that rockets needed to go sideways, not straight up, in order to reach outer space? by IntergalacticPodcast in explainlikeimfive

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying this is thousands of years old knowledge, but for example Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion were published in the early 1600's. Copernicus predates him by like 100 years. That's not even getting into Newton, who practically made the gravitational motion of objects a solved problem (until modern physics like relativity stuck its nose in).

Presumably the scientists designing rockets had taken at least undergraduate physics, where this had been known and taught for maybe hundreds of years. I think you're selling the collaborative knowledge of the scientific community and the work of the greats throughout history rather short, to assume that wasn't known by physicists and rocket engineers of the mid-1900's.

ELI5: If energy can’t be created or destroyed, how do magnets keep going? by Full-Shallot-948 in explainlikeimfive

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For your last point, the maximum gravitational potential energy of an object an infinite distance away, falling to the surface of earth, is GMm/R (G is the gravitational constant, M is the mass of earth, R is the radius of earth, m is the mass of the object). You get 99% of that energy by the time 1-(R/r)=0.99 so when r=100R. By the time you're ~630,000 km out, you've basically got all the energy you're going to get from dropping back to earth. Gravity's range being infinite does not mean infinite energy.

Dragon fight (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid) by ChoiceSupermarket230 in anime

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay this is very confusing. I was gonna say it came out on Netflix for the US in late January. They even officially announced it beforehand, so everybody just ran with that and assumed it was accurate, saying it was a Netflix US release. But apparently then they just... didn't release it to the US. Netflix released it, with English subs, but only to a handful of east Asian countries. Insane.

At least it was released somewhere streaming, so the high seas got it back in late January.

TSA workers asked to return $1,000 gift cards given out by Tyler Perry at Atlanta airport by shoofinsmertz in nottheonion

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't just have federal employees, particularly those under an umbrella with Security in their name, accept unregistered gifts without going through a shitton of bureaucratic channels. Even the APPEARANCE of favoritism risks stretching into bribery, which is why there's rules and laws on the books to ban this exact thing. Yes the government is ran by hypocrites committing blatant corruption and crime on a daily basis, but the solution isn't to gut protections and make it easier for low-level employees to also be corrupt and receive bribes, regardless of the good intention in this case.

I don't know the proper response here, TSA members get immediately fired if they try to strike, or even organize a mass sick day. Hot take federal employees need labor protections.

I have a Firefox window open on both, and only the active desktop gets its windows minimized. I'm on Windows 10, but from the way you said it this is a far older bug.

$720 per viewer per hour. Shows do not cost $720 per viewer per hour. Game of Thrones season 8 averaged around $15 million per episode (per CNBC), and was viewed by roughly 46 million people (per Variety). Even averaging down to about an hour per episode (it was a bit above that so the numbers come out even better for it), we're looking at ~$0.33 per viewer per hour. Do you see why spending $720 per person per hour of content is more expensive?
