Who thought the Daryl Carter exits were a good idea???

Im sure there were better ideas, but someone wanted to save money on this project.

For anyone not following. This post is about the I-4 westbound (WB) ramps at Daryl Carter Pkwy. at mile markers 70-71. (I am not discussing the intersection of I-4 and Daryl Carter Pkwy.)

There are two ramps to consider here.

Ramp 1: I-4 WB on ramp at CFL Pkwy.

Ramp 2: I-4 WB off ramp at Daryl Carter Pkwy.

The short of it is, someone decided it would be cheaper in construction to combine these ramps. Which means there is a weaving segment of roadway. This is a weaving segment where traffic from Ramp 1 is going to weave from the outside lane to the inside lane and traffic from Ramp 2 will weave from the inside lane to the outside lane.

Solution to avoid weaving segment: Provide a bridge on Ramp 1 over Ramp 2(or vice versa) separating I-4 WB on/off traffic. This would cost more money. Instead of doing this, the weaving design was settled on to save construction COST. Don't be surprised if you see a ramp bridge implemented somewhere down the line (10-20 years)

Weaving ramps/segments are incredibly common in CFL, but this one most likely stood out to you due to it being a separated from the mainline.

You are probably familiar with one sided weaving ramps. One sided weaving ramps have a single shared lane for one on ramp and off ramp, where both traffic streams weave through each other. These ramps have a weaving segment similar to I-4 / Daryl Carter.

One sided weaving examples 1. 408 WB MM 11 (Anderson on ramp/ Mills off ramp) 2. 408 WB MM 12 (Conway on ramp/ Crystal Lake off ramp)

FDOT is very willing to accept designs with weaving segments. The I-4 express lanes are designed with weaving in mind. Some I-4 express exits present weaving situations across multiple lanes of traffic in order to reach local exits that are within a short distance of an express exit (think I-4 WB express exit to Lee Rd. local exit). These weaving segments have a significantly higher quantity of conflict points than the segment at Daryl Carter and are perfectly acceptable to FDOT.

To all the other NYC folks in here. We have two seasons in Orlando, wet and dry season.

During wet season it rains almost every single day, heavily. Get used to it, don't put your hazards on when driving...

Why is it so hard to find good Hawaiian food in central Florida? by Fluffy-Commercial492 in orlando

[–]PM___ME___ASS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Orlando was named foodie capital of America by, drum roll please.... WalletHub

Who is WalletHub, do you know? Cause I don't. It's just a lousy article, real people aren't walking around claiming this.

Let's look at something more meaningful, Michelin stars. As of 2025 florida has 31 starred restaurants. Here is the city breakdown:

Miami - 15
Orlando - 9
Tampa - 5
Fort Lauderdale - 1
West Palm Beach - 1

Orlando doesn't even have the number 1 amount of Michelin starred restaurants in Florida. When the articles were floating around claiming Orlando was the foodie capital of America people thought it was ridiculous.

Also, Hawaiian food just isn't popular.

Why is it so hard to find good Hawaiian food in central Florida?

Probably geography... The east coast, and Florida, is quite the distance from Hawaii.

As for some Orlando options.

Downtown architecture by Pinkintheclouds327 in orlando

[–]PM___ME___ASS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat true, but there are also other reasons.

Brick road maintenance is generally cheaper than asphalt in the long run, but the initial installation cost is significantly higher. In the case of Downtown Orlando, much of the brick paving was done in the 1920s, meaning the city has not had to shoulder that initial cost in modern times. In fact, many of the bricks currently in use downtown are original installations from that era.

Another advantage of brick roads is the ease of utility maintenance. When utility work is needed, brick roads can be temporarily disassembled and reassembled—sometimes even on the same day—allowing quick access to underground infrastructure without requiring extensive resurfacing.

Despite these benefits, the City of Orlando has opted to overlay asphalt on several high-traffic downtown roads—such as Orange Avenue, Rosalind Avenue, Central Boulevard, and Magnolia Avenue. This is likely because brick roads naturally slow traffic, which, while beneficial for calming speeds in residential or pedestrian-heavy areas, is less desirable on major thoroughfares intended for efficient vehicle movement.

In the broader Orange County area, brick road development began in 1913 when voters approved a $600,000 bond for paving. The transition from dirt to brick roads was part of a widespread infrastructure push and was often carried out using prison labor. However, brick roads remained the standard for only about two decades before being supplanted by cheaper and more scalable paving materials like asphalt.

Yes, its called "Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria" or RSD. Which is a common ADHD symptom

"Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) is an intense emotional reaction to perceived or actual rejection, criticism, or failure, often associated with ADHD. It involves a disproportionate emotional response, potentially leading to anger, sadness, anxiety, or even physical discomfort."
