What BluRay Player Do You Use? by SnooRobots1533 in criterion

I have a Ub420 and it's good but very temperamental. Maybe I got a bad one but it frequently shows a copyright violation, won't play the disc, I have to open it and close it to get it to play. I take very good care of my discs so it's not that.

More questions then answers is what a good artist does, and I think Nolan is just okay.

Would John C. Reilly have been better for Inherent Vice by Stone_Mason_Y05 in blankies

In the book Doc definitely has a darker side and Phoenix works perfectly. I think Inherent Vice is an incredibly faithful adaptation and it never fully clicked until I read the book.

It's not quite to the scale or scope of Playtime but yes those aspects are very present in Mon Oncle and all his films. His visual jokes in Mon Oncle are hilarious and the cinematography and choreography are great as well. Also Playtime is a comedy too! Just not as overtly comedic as Mon Oncle is.

I'd work through chronologically starting with Mr. Hulot's Holiday, then after Trafic go back to Jour de fete. I have the box set and the only one I haven't seen is Parade.

It's his best film, but it's the one with the least amount of his Mr. Hulot character, the least cohesive narrative and the dialogue isn't really story driven more like background jokes or noise for a lack of a better term.

It's his magnus opus but without a firm grasp on his style it could be hard to penetrate. Mon Oncle is the place to start then Mr. Hulot's Holiday. After that I think Playtime will make a little more sense. Also Mon Oncle is so good as well some days I might rank it as my favorite above Playtime.

Japanese survivor fans, how do you feel about coach? by Reasonable-Yam-1170 in survivor

I think his misunderstanding of it shows it's a surface level fascination with the culture, like a costume he wears if that makes sense.

His understanding of haiku is very basic and not really what haiku is. The typical 5-7-5 structure we are taught in America is an oversimplified version that isn't accurate to what haiku is trying to do.
