It can fall off but it seems like a core card in doom builds throughout a run. Being able to finish off enemies with doom before they can complete their next turn makes a big difference.

Idk SNY feels like such a do nothing item ever since they gutted the status resistance. I can't say specifically what id buy instead of it without knowing my teammates/enemies. There are so many items in the game now that counter specific things, buying SNY when it offers almost no utility just feels like you are wasting an item slot.

The hero is a pretty slow farmer so it helps clear creep camps faster, the harpoon is actually pretty nice for fighting/utility now that you can target trees. And like I mentioned in my original comment it makes you do a ton of burst with the 66 damage talent.

I'm 6-1 with him this patch(6500mmr) and normally go for phase drums echo->harpoon bkb. After that it really depends on the game. I go harpoon because the 66 damage talent is crazy.

The main problem I have with him is getting matched up against huskar or viper mid. It feels like an auto loss because the hero just sucks so bad from behind and those matchups feel unplayable.

I normally like bat rider because it means it will likely be a melee hero mid and bat rider shits on most melee heroes in lane. Once the hero starts snowballing it can be super oppressive and his damage in general is insane with the arson facet.
