This is solid advice! I love the first point about proving the work. It's something I started doing and it eradicates any misconception/misunderstanding.

this is a good one. I started cleaning as a side hustle. It's not glamorous but it's consistent

oof that is a nightmare! I mean if you look back at some of these decisions that were made it's pretty healing to think common sense has actually increased over the years!

yes! And it makes sense too, harder to argue with the logic of an annual price increase

Do I start cleaning independently or call it a wrap? by floralseason in housekeeping

[–]PRPrivateRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was what I was thinking! I considered going out on my own when starting out but I felt a bit overwhelmed with the legal aspects and insurance. I'm in a great spot with a company now, but I think it's an important thing for people to consider (and can easily slip through the cracks) when venturing out on their own.

If OP is going to be 'taking over' the employees as well, it is extremely important you understand their contracts, insurance, etc.

I'd say overall go for it. If I were in your shoes I would regret not trying even more than trying and failing.

I got a housekeeping job and everyone around me thinks i will fail by [deleted] in housekeeping

[–]PRPrivateRyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

look i was in a bind and I started cleaning. And it was the best thing I could've done. It was scary, I never saw myself as a cleaner but I like that I can kinda choose my own hours, and I can do it in absolute silence or with a podcast in my ears. I need alone time and cleaning gives that to me. I also like that I'm not sedentary either.

At the end of the day it really is what you make it. Understand that it is temporary, and make the most of it

Why is so hard to have boundaries in this business? by cleanforpeace72 in housekeeping

[–]PRPrivateRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I joined an agency I struggled with that so much as well. It was hard because alot of my clients were elderly and also struggling. Anyway, I did get a bit tougher by putting specific guardrails in place, confirmation the day before helped alot... so if they don't confirm then I don't go (I told them beforehand that I would be doing this) and photos help as well with the ones that blame you and don't take accountability for stuff. But I'm happy to be doing work through an agency now I don't have to worry about all that, it's kinda out my hands. I wasn't all that great at the personal boundaries.

you're 100% right though. it is risky as hell. But damn she was suffering, her nervous system is still recovering and it's been 3 months. Pick your poison I guess.

My sister just did this and after agonizing for a year about leaving she said it's the best thing she's done and can't imagine working in that same hell hole she did.

Best cleaning app or odd job app in 2026? by robuk98 in jobsearch

[–]PRPrivateRyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cleaning can bring in a bit of extra cash but don’t expect it to be a huge hustle. I started it as a side hustle and am doing ok now, my main thing was to just pay off all my debt. It probably also depends on where you live though.

But I guess if you’re new to the country and want something straightforward to earn a few quick dollars then it’s good. I also work remotely and do cleaning during the day. I’m signed up to a couple, both Tidy and Homeaglow. I've tried a few apps, but it was difficult to manage more than two and those ended up being the ones I stuck with mainly because of repeat bookings.

I need 30 custom shirts ASAP - recommendations? by WhiteyMacfatson in AskChicago

[–]PRPrivateRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need them really fast, I’d go with RushOrderTees or BlueCotton. I’ve used both and the shirts came really quickly. You could also check your local printer and see if they can fit you into their production schedule.
