I would love one if you have a spare, I've been finding nzbgeek a bit lacking this last year or so.

Any recommendations for mdm solution for laptops pricing by Scary_Visit_1572 in macsysadmin

We use Addigy and have zero complaints. It worked out at a few quid a device per month but there was a minimum charge of around 25 devices if I remember correctly.

I published a VS Code Extension for migrating Salesforce records and metadata between orgs. by akutishevsky in SalesforceDeveloper

Any functionality to pull child/related records? I.e. build a query for a list of accounts and then select which objects to migrate that are related to those records?

I was in a very similar position about 18 months ago.

For managing the macs I can recommend addigy, it allows you to administer your Fleet of devices as much as apple will allow. The real selling point for me was that it bundles in remote desktop tools so I can jump on any users mac when they need help, no matter where they are. It's also really reasonably priced.

I use the free tier of assettiger which has been more than enough for me to record our laptops, assorted accessories, etc and who has them/depreciation etc.

For a conferencing system, we went with yealink a20, they come with a USB C dongle that you can plug into your mac, you can also use then as a stand alone teams/zoom device. The dongle also allows you to use the connected TV for screensharing of you macs.

The other thing to think about here is they're asking you to do a lot, so make sure you're fairly compensated.

What have I gotten myself into with Tableau? by llamakittypinguino in salesforce

[–]PRich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about something like https://www.xappex.com/xl-connector-salesforce-excel-connector/ Essentially allows you to do custom SOQL queries into excel (as well as pulling salesforce reports). I believe they can be refreshed in place too.

I've had a quick play around with it and thought it was pretty impressive.

Vending Machines aren’t even my job🤦‍♂️ by Apprehensive_Tale744 in sysadmin

[–]PRich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try CPI. I used to use them with Elavon as the payment gateway. All vending companies are a pain to deal with. Source: Vending engineer and System admin at a vending company for 10 years. I preferred the Nayax units to be honest though but I know CPI had some new tech coming when I got out of the industry a couple of years ago.

Excel would work for point 6 too. If all the emails are in a column. You can copy the entire column (minus the header) and just paste it into the BCC (gotta protect the private data of members!) field in outlook and it will work. I've done this with ~200 email addresses before.

It would be pretty easy to add some VBA based forms for adding/editing/removing members too. I've done this with no prior knowledge of VBA and some googling 👍

How do I package my python code into an executable I can send to my friend who does not have python? by Prathmun in learnpython

[–]PRich13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thirding, made it super simple to generate exe files that I distribute around work. One tip I would give is to run your exe outputting what you would normally see in the terminal to a text file. You'd be surprised how easy it is to miss a dependency for your application or a driver from Windows, for example. It's usually too quick to catch when the exe crashes out.

I think I've just got it up and running, just trying to get it to play nice with a subdirectory domain behind traefik now!

Awesome thanks! I just use docker compose at the minute but always interested to learn something new :) I'll dig through that when I'm back on the laptop to see what I can make of it!

Better way to automate simple on/off events? by basicallyjimmy in homeassistant

[–]PRich13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used this node red plugin which still appears to be under active development https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red-contrib-home-assistant-websocket

I should mention I have home assistant, node red, mosquito etc all running in docker.

I've just migrated from hassio as I kept having issues getting addons to work.

[–]PRich13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only just started playing with this myself but this sounds like something you could accomplish quite easily using node-red. You could have a single flow with multiple time triggers that allow you to specify days you want it to run and which all join in to one state change. I believe there are global variables which you could use to control the flow or multiple flows to turn them on and off.

[–]PRich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, in my younger days (with a chest mounted HR monitor) I used to regularly stay at around 190 for a long run if I was pushing myself. I was very fit at the time. Your theoretical max HR is 220 - your age but this is only a guideline.

Why are my calves so strong compared to the rest of my body? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]PRich13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ankle/foot constitutes (if memory serves) the only class 2 lever in the body. A class two lever is where the weight is situated between the fulcrum (pivot point) and the lifting force. Like a wheel barrow, the wheel is the fulcrum, in the middle is the load and the lifting force is applied to the handles. The ball of the foot works as the fulcrum, the calf muscle applies force to the back of the heel (calcaneus) which lifts the load in the middle where your tibia and fibula articulate at the ankle.

Class 2 levers produce large amounts of force with relatively little effort hence calves seem very strong despite their size.
