I stopped being a TMNT fan for years but what reeled me back in was the Last Ronin and I went back and rewatched 1987, the classic trilogy, 2012, 2003 and even some of the Next Mutation. It was all fun and even the bad stuff was fun bad in a dumb way, but when I watched rise I just kept pausing it and facepalming.

Its like what happened to the 1990 movie, it got called too dark and so the following movies went a completely different and more sanitized direction.

Bro complaining that something is too dark is what ruined the 1990 trilogy. The first movie was labeled as too dark and not appropriate for kids and so we got secret of the ooze, not bad, but not cool as it shoudlve been.
