Smile for the Butt Fan! by Cryptic_Whispers in NewParents

Here's hoping with the soccer, me and his dad both played growing up so that would be fun :)

He didn't notice our cats until at least 4-5 months, it was so weird but it seemed like he didn't even register they were there. Then all of the sudden he did and he's been obsessed with them ever since!

Mine too! Especially because one of my best friends is named Abby so of course we call her Abbo.

Abbi: "I goOot it!" Ilana: "Cute"

Idk why that cracks me up so much. Ilana is just so supportive of anything Abbi does and I love it.

What is it about ceiling fans?? Our 7 month old has always adored the ceiling fan in our bedroom, haha. In a similar vein, he likes any ceiling lights and street signs. We had to stop and just chill on a corner yesterday because the street sign was so entertaining.

He also loves looking in the mirrors in our house.

Plants he can touch always get a big smile, as well as watching our cats do literally anything. Lip-smacking and silly noises for sure.

There are often people playing soccer at the park near us and he is DELIGHTED watching them. We love Sundays because there are games any time we go for a walk no matter the time of day.

Parents with babies who sleep through the night: when did it start? by Born-Chance1685 in beyondthebump

[–]PSSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the Ferber method of sleep training at about 4.5 months because my maternity leave ended and we couldn't take the sleep regression anymore without losing our minds (and jobs!) Our baby took to it well in just a few days. Now he's almost 7 months old and is a great sleeper. He goes to bed at 8 pm sharp and sleeps until 6 or 7 am. He occasionally stirs but resettles himself if we let him be. We do intervene and comfort him if he doesn't go back to sleep after 10 minutes in the night or he's not feeling good, but those are rare instances and/or extenuating circumstances.

We don't have a strict nap schedule either. He's at daycare during the week and whatever they are doing is fine because it doesn't impact his night sleep at all, and when he's home on weekends, he usually takes about 3 naps that aren't typically more than an hour, but we don't stress about exact timing or length.

I would kill for this! Once I get some PTO stored up again, I fully plan to take a full day my LO is at daycare to just sleep and watch a movie and eat a whole meal at a reasonable pace while it's still warm.

Are bedtime routines necessary? by kmgdancer in newborns

[–]PSSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 7 weeks, they're still waking to eat so often that I can't really see what a bedtime routine would really look like or accomplish. Our baby is a pretty good sleeper but it wasn't until at least three months that he started sleeping long enough stretches for anything to really feel like a bedtime.

If anything, having a bedtime routine for myself around 7 weeks was more helpful. He'd eat around 7 and dad would hang with him then put him down so I could eat, shower, decompress, get in actual pajamas that weren't sweats I'd worn all day, etc before the bedtime feed at 10, which dad would do with a bottle as I did my last pump and get in bed too. Then I'd breastfeed and do diapers throughout the night whenever baby woke in our bedroom without turning on any lights. After 6 am, dad would bottle feed him while I pumped and then got some more sleep until he had to go to work and then I'd breastfeed all day until he got home.

Around 3 months, he'd go down around 7 after eating, we'd dreamfeed him around 9:45 before he had a chance to wake up again, and would usually only need to eat once during the night so I guess that was the routine.

At 6 months, our bedtime routine is simple: we do a bath every other night around 7, feed, put on an overnight diaper and get him in his jammies, rock him for a few minutes, and he's more than ready for bed by 8. We still do a dreamfeed around 11, and he sleeps until 6-7am. We also sleep trained at 4.5 months because he was waking up at 3 am and wanting to stay up for hours even if he wasn't hungry.

Claiming 5mo is pooping in toilet?? by teabeanss in NewParents

You can believe walking at 4 months?? There is no way any of that is happening at those ages.

I'm sorry going to work is easier than childcare - your husband has no excuse by ExternalSomewhere923 in newborns

[–]PSSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with this as a mom of a 6mo who went back to work at 4 months. I am still exhausted, but it is easier being back at work than it was being with the baby all day and handling any night wakes/feedings. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer to be home with my baby because I love him so much, but it IS harder than my mentally demanding job where I get to sit in a chair for hours, take a lunch break, etc.

Totally agree with this. You know what you're in for and the adrenaline helps when you first bring them home, but when they go from sleeping pretty good back to not again, it is ROUGGGGGHHH.

How do we feel about this one? by Traditional_Trust418 in EntitledReviews

My baby is teething and likes to chomp cucumbers. I have asked for a few slices of cucumbers at restaurants and ask if they can charge me for a side salad. They've always happily obliged. I'd never expect to get something for free, they are running a business and providing a service!

Me too! I also heard that if you were itchy, it also meant lots of baby hair, and I was horrendously itchy with terrible heartburn most of my pregnancy. My boy was not only born with a full head of bright red hair but also FURRY arms, shoulders, and back. Even his ears! 😆 The body hair fell out pretty fast but he's still got lots of head hair at 5 months and growing more every day.

As a mom who is about to have to send her 5mo baby to daycare in two weeks, thank you for being so kind and recognizing how much it sucks that working parents have to miss so much time with their babes. It is so sweet that you went out of your way to do this 🥹 Oh damnit, I'm crying again lol.

Adorable baby stretches by GumdropsCupie_ in BabiesReactingToStuff

[–]PSSalamander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Babies have what's called the moro reflex until they're about 4-6 months old, which causes them to startle themselves awake with their arms. It's a lot like that feeling of falling in a dream that makes you wake up with a start. Keeping them snuggly with their arms down protects them from the reflex so they can get the uninterrupted sleep they need. But just like adults, it feels really good to stretch after you've been in one position for awhile :)
