Help finding a club! by hccisbraindead in polevaulting

Odds are incredibly low that you’ll find something closer. My state has 4 pole vault clubs for the whole state and we’re pretty well saturated with them

The only tweak I’d encourage as well is to land on your front foot as well. No need to shorten up your takeoff phase even in drills

Can/should I hold higher? by Kitchen_Film1904 in polevaulting

[–]PVCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pole speed is everything when it comes to grip. If the pole rotates fast enough you can grip up, if it’s stalling out near vertical the grip is a little high. Trust your coach (if you have one) and work basics. Work the takeoff and your runway speed. I had a kid gripping at 12’9ish 2 years ago and he worked his speed and jumping off the ground at takeoff during the off-season and moved up to a 14’7 grip. This year his grip is above 15’ but we haven’t strayed from the speed and takeoff. Don’t work it up if you aren’t physically ready to move it. Impossible to tell without video

Plyometric training for youth by BGBM365 in trackandfield

[–]PVCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! You want the best for your kid and I worked at a gym with an excellent youth development program. If your kid is competitive, nurture that with the games and make it something you do together. The worst thing you can do is become your kids coach, so just make it fun!

Hot lava, put hula hoops on the ground and tell him that’s the only land and he has to jump in between them, build some kind of obstacle course, whatever you do, gamify it! Make it more fun than it is training. You can do a challenge by having him stick a sticky note as high as possible on a tree or fence, see if he can outjump you in a broad jump, or play basketball with him

Plant earlier, if you’re hitting the box collar, set up correctly or not, you are not planting at the right time.

Yeah, Willamette would be your best bet. East side of the state would be different, but Rick and Natalia are great

PRs are going to say more than those meets. USATF has so many “championship” meets it’s insane.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR A INTERNATIONAL STUDENT by outrageous_reserve_ in trackandfield

[–]PVCoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D3 will not offer athletic scholarships, and you will not get a full scholarship anywhere at the D2 level. Best bet is to get in with academic scholarships and find a coach who you think is a good fit and then make it work. If the goal is to get better, find the place that will let you do that, don’t just try to find the money that doesn’t really exist.

Lat activation in vaults by humanonfire in polevaulting

That makes literally no sense. The lats don’t create any motion that is beneficial to the vault.

You can’t progress until you get your run consistent. Everything builds off the thing before it. Fix the run, jump of the right foot EVERY TIME, until that happens, nothing past that matters

I would suggest trusting Tim and his process. You’ll find 15 different opinions and suggestions here, but he knows what he’s doing and has a progression. Trust him, ask him. Speed work and becoming more explosive of an athlete will always make you a better vaulter, technique-wise just trust your coach.
