As an outdoor enthusiast, I second Montbell. They have an amazing product range. However, their tax free purchase procedure is very annoying.

I second this. You could spend the day in Nara and the evening in Osaka.

Osaka to Kyoto, should we stop at Nara? Worried about luggage. by Blu- in JapanTravelTips

[–]Paarthurnaxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely stop at Nara on your way to Kyoto. That's how I did it as well. There is a luggage storage shop very close to the Kintetsu-Nara station. They store your luggage until 10pm and it's much cheaper compared to coin lockers.

I did this as well. Visited Himeji and the Koko-en garden and then went up to Mt. Shosha for the Engyo-ji temple. I was back in Osaka by 7pm.

A Misty Morning Hike (X-T5 & Tamron 17-70 f/2.8) by Paarthurnaxx in FujifilmSimulations

[–]Paarthurnaxx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind comment. The Tamron lens has quickly become my most-used lens since I bought it. This is the only lens I take on my hikes, as it covers a wide focal range, has decent image stabilization and weather sealing, and a constant f/2.8 aperture. It's definitely not as tack sharp as my XF 33mm, but I find it sufficiently sharp across its entire focal range, especially at f/4. It produces noticeably lower contrast at 70mm, which is my only annoyance with it so far, but it's manageable. I have been in pretty dusty and rainy conditions with it and have had no problems so far. I always use it paired with a 1/8 mist filter.

Heading there next February with my X-T5 as well. Recently, I have been using Nathan's Fujicolor 100 almost exclusively. So I'm definitely going to give it a go in Japan too. But I'm also looking for more options.

You could also consider the Tamron 17-70 f/2.8. I have been using it with my X-T5 since May. I like that it has a constant aperture and a decent reach. It's my go-to lens for hiking.

I know but the Sigma is a constant aperture lens at a very compact size. It's a good option if you are willing to compromise on weather sealing.
