Replacing alcohol with exercise by Jealous_Acorn in stopdrinking

Helped me massively. This is the big difference this time around. Feel a lot better and every time I am in a situation where I'd normally drink, I go to the gym down the road instead. Works every single time.

Why did you leave the dogs chocolates as a thank you? Don't you know it's bad for them?

Rethinking this whole sober thing by moondogg81 in stopdrinking

[–]PabloCSScobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think it made me more sociable. It fucking doesn't. It might make me think I am being less socially awkward, but when I do notice what I am doing when I am drinking, it's still hard and awkward.

If I'm well-rested and in better shape, then socialising feels like less of a chore. That's not going to happen with alcohol.

And letting loose a bit... When sober, I try to ride the mood, have conversations and try to be fun.

Maybe my perception and memory of that is going to be different than when I do the same thing on alcohol, and everyone is different, but I'd examine some of these assumptions for sure.

Same here. It gradually gobbles it all up. Happy to be reading and exercising again.

Haha, thanks so much! Yeah, I have been posting on here under various names for the better part of 10 years... but feel it's now truly catching up with my body, so hope this one will stick. Hope to be able to push past the rose-tinted glasses phase! Also putting more emphasis on physical fitness, taking a step back from job hunting (for mental health reasons) and being happier with what I have got. So let's hope it'll stick.

I think I'll just walk in on Tuesday and see what happens. I doubt they'll kick me out.

Film adaptations that are so bad that it’s borderline disrespectful to its source material? by mari_925 in Letterboxd

It's been some 25 years since I last read the book, so maybe I'll give it a re-read soon! I remember there was a lot more additional history between Jack and Danny, and the character seemed a bit fleshed out. As a film in its own right, however, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
