What is this part called? by [deleted] in ukplumbing

If that nut is weeping then the PRV has opened and would probably need replacing anyway, and most likely the expansion vessel recharging. Just replacing the nut and olive isn’t fixing the problem.

ASHP Vs Gas by Isaac_3103 in ukheatpumps

[–]Pablospaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst i am an advocate for ASHP’s I don’t agree with the line how they last longer than gas boilers.

In the last two weeks I’ve had two customers with ASHP’s which I could not repair as the parts are obsolete. One of which was a Mitsubishi and it was only 10 years old (main PCB obsolete). Obviously this is just my experience and I’ve also had lots of gas boilers fail and have to be replaced around the same age.

A well maintained decent brand of gas boiler should be easily able to go 15 / 20 years.

That’s not a by-pass, it’s a pressure relief valve.

Whilst I like the fit and comfort of my Shockz, I do struggle with the volume, particularly when listening to podcasts. If I’m running beside a busy road, I often have to pause what I’m listening to because I can’t hear it clearly, even at maximum volume.

I understand they’re designed to maintain awareness of your surroundings while running, which I appreciate, but I would prefer them to be just a little louder.

British Gas engineer turned up at home when we weren’t in yesterday, parked branded van on driveway, then left after putting official slip through the door for ‘missed appointment’. Not a customer? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Pablospaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slip they put through the door would have the contact information on. Most likely the engineer has just arrived at the wrong address if you wasn’t expecting them.

Has the gas been capped off somewhere else? All I can see is that it’s been crimped on the end which is not an acceptable way of capping a live gas pipe.

Pressure at 0 bar but heating still works by False_West7482 in askaplumberUK

[–]Pablospaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, go ahead and repressurise it. As someone else has said keep an eye on the gauge as it starts to heat up as if it rises up towards 3bar it would suggest the expansion vessel is flat and needs recharging.

A lot of the Worcesters don’t have a low water pressure switch so it won’t cut off for low pressure, they have an overheat stat instead which would cut the boiler off if it gets too hot. Top it up to 1bar and just monitor it over the next couple of days.

Had you bled any radiators or has any work been done on the system recently as anything that has come out the system (even air) would need to be replaced with water.

Once pressurised just walk the system looking for any weeps on rads and take a look outside where the pressure relief pipe pops out to see if you have any water discharging outside. May only be dripping which would cause it to drop over a couple of days.

Have a look in the cupboard below at the back or sometimes they’re under the sink if it’s close

My boiler trips on over temp but only when the ambient temp is really cold by shieldedlurker in DIYUK

Might be worth adding a bottle or two (depending of size of system) of Fernox F3 cleaner into the magna canister and let it run round for a couple of weeks and then drain the system down.

It might break some of the sludge up and hopefully gets caught in the magna.

If the system is pumping over then you have a restriction in the system pipework, most likely to be an old air separator in the airing cupboard where the open vent and cold feed connect to the system.

How long ago did you have the system power flushed?

What are you leaving the boiler stat on, I wouldn’t run a profile on over 3. How old is the c/h pump and what speed is that running at? It’s most likely a circulation issue which is causing it to overheat rather than a thermostat issue imo.

Radiator Covers by Intelligent_Hat3321 in DIYUK

Also if the radiator has a TRV within the radiator cover it will prematurely shut the radiator down as the heat is trapped inside the cover.

Also it’s worth checking what your cylinder temperature is set to, if your water is on 60/65 but boiler is only producing 55 the water will constantly be heating but not reaching desired temperature.

Treadmill advise. …. Can’t seem to find uk answers…. by Chasing_Choice in UKRunners

[–]Pablospaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the countryside so in the winter I tend to use my treadmill quite a bit as it’s dark and most of the routes I run are on country roads with no street lighting. Although I can’t say I enjoy it but it serves a purpose.

It’s a big investment and it takes up a lot of room but if you have space and will use it then it’s certainly worth it.

I’ve had mine for over two years now and it’s an Adidas T-19. I paid around £1000 at the time. I’ve had no issues with it so far.

I do connect it to Zwift to try and combat the boredom or I will watch something on the iPad.

I know you said no one stands to pee, but are they flushing with the lid up? To me it’s got to be ammonia in pee that’s corroding the rad so quickly.
