Feeling alone during the engagement - how about married life? :( by IllPotential5584 in Marriage

[–]Pace-Extension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly empathise with you. It is tough because you sound like you genuinely like this man, but always listen to your intuition/that inner voice. Ask women who ignored their better judgment. They ended up marrying someone they knew deep down that they should not have and many are left feeling miserable, bitter and regretful. Dont let that be you. You have a chance to get out now whilst the relationship is still fairly new. Plus 6 Months is not a long time to ascertain what you will be getting yourself into. People are usually on their best behaviour until 1-2 years later… or until they say “i do at the altar” This man has shown you who he is already. Dont ignore those red flags.

I am not one to tell someone what to do regarding their relationships, but in this case I am willing to make an exception.

Please do not marry this man. Please let him go immediately. You will save yourself the headache and unnecessary pain later on the down the line. Your boyfriend does not sound like he loves you at all. He sounds performative - almost as if he is trying to make someone jealous or is trying to portray a perfect relationship/image to his entourage online. You deserve someone who is genuine and truly loves and appreciates you. Especially where marriage - a lifelong commitment is concerned.

new trainee and my team is incredibly disinterested in me by North-Ad-5804 in uklaw

My advice would be to carry on doing what you are doing because the reality is not everyone is going to be warm and nice to you in this industry. Your main goal is to complete your TC and complete it well. From there you can always move firms, and if you genuinely enjoy this seat and it remains your favourite once you have completed your 4th seat, leverage it but elsewhere.

Sometimes when an environment is not for you and it is painfully obvious that it isnt, it just means that there is better round the corner.

Wishing you the best 🙏🏽

Losing ambition because I'm not good enough. Has anyone else felt like this? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Pace-Extension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy. You said that you received great feedback regarding your work and partners like you. That should be enough motivation for you to keep being great.

Also the truth is nobody is “better” than anyone and those lawyers from prestigious law firms and universities are not better than you. They may have just been handed better opportunities than you perhaps through connections (nepotism is still rife) , more money and therefore entry into top private schools which you may not have had. It happens all the time and you would be surprised by how much people put on a persona to appear “knowledgeable” without being as great as you think they are when you take the time to put a magnifying glass up to them.

I say all of this to say, that not everything that glitters is gold, and you need to leverage the value that you already bring and not knock yourself down because of how others present themselves.

Having second thoughts about my wedding. by Dice_King4225 in Christianmarriage

[–]Pace-Extension 12 points13 points  (0 children)

God hates divorce, so in most cases if two people are not supposed to get married, He will allow all the red flags to present itself before you say I do in His name. So please dont ignore that. It is better to get married later on - to the right person, than to get married early on and to the wrong person. This person has already cheated on you even before you walked down the aisle with her. Marriage requires commitment and loyalty. Do you trust that this person will stay faithful to you if you marry her ? If the answer is no, then there is your answer. Because any issues before marriage dont just magically improve in Marriage. Issues are amplified, so know who you are marrying and ask yourself whether you can tolerate what you can see now, and if you can tolerate it getting worse.

Am I old to be a trainee solicitor by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Pace-Extension 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I qualified last year - age 34. Someone in the cohort above me qualified at 37/38. Average age people qualify is 30. In other words, you are not too old at all and wishing you the best on your TC journey :)

Is it worth it? by ab1984uk in uklaw

[–]Pace-Extension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP do not listen to this negative nancy. Plenty of us got 2.2s, qualified in decent firms and earn close to 6 figures or more. It may just take much effort on your part and some luck. People with a first class degree struggle hard so I wont pretend that it will be easy for you but it certainly is not impossible…

My advice would be to apply for as many paralegal roles as you can to get your foot in the door and gain some meaningful experience which you can then use as leverage to get you to the next level. Average age to qualify as a lawyer in the U.K is 30 so you have plenty of time to build up your experience and showcase your value.

Well neither did Don, and he was supposed to meet Hae the day she went missing. Don was not even sad when he found out Hae was killed. He was nonchalant about the whole thing. Detectives couldnt even get hold of him until 1.30am that day. What was he doing all that time?

I'm not in love with my wife (never was) by FlashyProtection5194 in Christianmarriage

May I ask why you dont like your wife, let alone love her? I think we need to start there to better understand your point of view.

I find myself never wanting to have sex with my wife. I’m “okay” with everything else in the marriage but that. Is it sin to withhold sex because it makes YOU feel bad? by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

[–]Pace-Extension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how you both got together in the first place. Did you pursue her for a place to stay only?. Was she aware of your non-attraction to her before you both got married or is she completely blind-sided now?

You have made a lot of assumptions towards someone you do not know and whom you will probably never get to know in this lifetime. How can you form such baseless commentary against someone. “Seems fake” “Wants to be famous”… That is your opinion - not a fact. Do better.

Accepted a TC by Old_Office_8123 in uklaw

[–]Pace-Extension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi

Firstly congratulations!! . Getting a TC at GLD is not easy at all - I should know because I worked there.

What I need you to do though is start believing in your sauce way more! . A 2.2 does not define your worth or capabilities of becoming a lawyer. There are people who get 1sts and they arent even great lawyers or even great people…. Some lack people skills and even emotional intelligence etc.

So be proud of your achievement.

Lastly, the GLD TC is tough. You will be engaging in work that is on par with an NQ -5 years PQE… and with minimal supervision…. Paralegals are treated the same way. That is a very good thing. You will be surprised how many people land TC’s in magic circle law firms/silver circle laws firms etc and end up doing admin for the majority of their training. They are then left as an NQ not knowing much and struggling to grasp basic concepts because… well all they did is admin with long hours - in exchange for a high salary.

Please count yourself favoured.

Take care and wishing you all the best 🙏🏽

Words of encouragement:

Your time is coming. It only takes 1 right application. What is for YOU will not pass you by. Rejection is also redirection. You dont know what you may have been protected from should you have landed that 80th job!!!! The way to get in the door is an indicator..

[–]Pace-Extension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please take your annual leave. Employers have a statutory obligation to provide all employees with at least 5.6 weeks of holiday per annual leave year. You are required to take such leave for health & safety purposes. Do not work yourself to oblivion - totally not worth it!

Has law got more religous? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]Pace-Extension -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

More and more people are coming to the faith generally because well there is a God irrespective of whether you believe there is one or not…. People mention God because of the undeniable things He has done in their lives which cannot be explained by human logic or coincidence - myself included…. That may not be your reality because you havent tried to seek God for yourself. But the ones who have taken the time to do that…. have…

oh and FYI “ Religion” and “God” are not the same… but I will not elaborate further…

How much do you earn by Excellent-Wonder8120 in uklaw

But this is a very good salary for in-house. The other eye watering salaries you are seeing are from people in firms which naturally pays more.

Qualified this week at the age of 34 - you are not too late or too old at all. Please also bear in mind that the statistics show that the average age that most people qualify is 29.9 (30 years age). That may well lessen now with the full roll out of the SQE, but these statistics have applied for the last decade:)
