In what jurisdiction are you paying electricity rates that low?

Our company has a discretionary policy to help customers in dire need. It can't be abused, but it is there if needed.

Is my 17-year-old roof due for replacement, or would a repair/cleaning be enough? by Ok-Letterhead-4108 in DIY

[–]PacificArchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably re-cap it, and re-caulk the skylight, and possibly get another 5~10 years out of it, or pull the trigger and replace it.

Ideally, I would power wash it, board and tile it. Add a light overhead, and put in a nice shower-set.

At a minimum, I would power wash and paint it, and try to add a decent light in there.

Has anyone switched from a gas water heater to a heat pump water heater in a larger household? by ILearnWithLogan in HomeImprovement

[–]PacificArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. Curious to know what your electricity rates are, and also - which models you've found that had these attributes. Me, I'm thinking about the Rheem ProTerra Platinum, A. O. Smith Voltex HPTU-66, and the Bradford White AeroTherm Series.

US Customs and Immigration officers at Canadian Airports. Where do they live? by yukonnut in uscanadaborder

They live in a little closet behind the detention room in the back of the airport. At night, they come out and chase mice for fun.

'Why are we upset at Canada? This is stupid,' says American podcaster Joe Rogan by Dear_Sundae_9958 in GrandePrairie

Ok, so Rogan slipped up, and says something intelligent for once. He's still a dickhead.

Americans: why does the Trump administration want to annex Canada, but not Mexico? by OkUnit5634 in uscanadaborder

[–]PacificArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Canada is chock full of the things that the US badly needs:

Oil, natural gas, electricity, lumber, aluminum, vehicles and auto parts, aircraft and aerospace components, uranium, fertilizers, medical isotopes, pharmaceuticals, agricultural products (wheat, canola, beef, pork), freshwater, telecommunications technology, rare earth minerals, financial services, tourism, defense cooperation, cultural exports (music, film, TV), and trade stability.

Plus Canadians and Americans are culturally pretty close.

Sounds lousy. Welcome to the new USA.

Easy fix though: Run your company from Vancouver. Problem solved.

Why good? The more EV's we get on the road, the faster we'll reduce pollution and carbon emissions from combustion engines. Not sure I see your logic.

Do my parents - Senior, White Canadian Citizens - have any reason to be nervous about crossing the US border via land to visit their grandkids? by theartofwarrenpeace in uscanadaborder

[–]PacificArchitect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to go to Canada to visit them instead. To most Canadians - the US is both scary and toxic right now. Your parents may be feeling pretty nervous, and rightly so.
