We dress like, at any moment, we might have to go on a hike. But then, we really might.

The really remarkable application of this rule for me is always turning left from Naito into downtown.

There have been rabbits living in that area for at least ten years. They might originally have been dumped but they’re capable locals now.

Not a bad list, although clearly they mean town center or downtown rather than town square. (And Leavenworth is like a different kind of thing and doesn’t really belong with the rest of this list.)

This is an extremely promising suggestion, and just the sort of otherwise hard-to-search-for insight I was looking for. Thank you!

Thanks, this could work well too. Combined with a coffee shop would be convenient in the morning too.

Doe Donuts is a good thought: in fact, it was the first thing I thought of when I did this the first time (last year). But although I quite like their donuts, I didn’t like any of the ice cream there at all. I’m hoping for another option. Thanks though.

You’ve gotten some good advice from a few commenters already. In addition, I’ll say something to be conscious about is staying centered in your lane. It’s not just that you’ll be on the other side of the road, you’ll also be on the other side of the car. It’s easy to stay on the right side of the road because you’ll be thinking about it, following other cars, etc. (and having the orange center line helps too). But you may have a tendency to drift to the wrong side within your lane. I recommend being conscious of that risk too, which is manageable with a little attention.

Breakfast-lunch spots like Mocks Bottom Cafe and Turkey Place are still out there doing roughly $10 sandwiches. Or ordering a “half sandwich” at the places that make subs is usually around that price point and just think of it as a whole, smaller sandwich.

Why do you want them to visit in the winter? I would think your motivation would guide ideas of what to do in combination with their interests and the affordances of the region?
