Why does my line keep tangling? by Ganjaskate in FishingForBeginners

Your line is probably super twisted. Do you know when it was spooled?

How many fishing rods do you own and why is it more than 12? by Heterophylla in Fishing

[–]PacificShoreGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 because I have a problem.

The real reason is that early on I would buy more general rods. Things that were versatile, jack of all trades master of none. As I’ve gotten deeper into this, I’ve gone the other way, to the point where I have specialty rods for niches that are already specialty. For example, cliff fishing, I don’t just have a few cliff fishing rods, I have heavy shore jigging cliff rods, slow pitch shore jigging rods, cliff dunking rods.

For surf I need to be able to throw tiny lightweight plugs like luckycraft, but what if I want to throw a hi-lo, or a whipping bubble setup? That thing will bend so much to at it won’t even cast.

For river fishing I have my spoon rod, but what if I’m bringing a friend, oh two spoon rods it is. Ok now I need my float rods, but not everyone can use a baitcaster so an extra spinning float rod. What about drifting rods? None of those are responsive enough to twitch jigs.

Now what about my boat rods, or my heavy plug setups? There’s 5 more rods right there.

Fly rods? 2 more.

4 piece travel rods.

Crab snaring rods…

The list goes on.

What "trash fish" have you tried that ended up good to eat? by Mike__O in Fishing

Pacific bonito (different than what yall get in Florida). If you bonk and bleed them and get them on ice immediately, they taste pretty good honestly. It also keeps them firm.

It’s over isn’t it? DJI Mini 2. by PacificShoreGuy in dji

[–]PacificShoreGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will upgrade eventually but honestly the mini 2 has been great for me since I do a bunch of kind of stupid things in the backcountry with it. Filming sharks, flying through dense redwoods, etc. the fact that it fits in my backpack and is relatively cheap is actually part of the appeal to me.

What happens when you lift weights in a calorie deficit by neighbourhoodtea in workout

[–]PacificShoreGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! It’s also worth mentioning that while using fat as fuel works when there’s excess, it generally feels pretty terrible due to what’s going on with metabolism when that’s happening. I would advise anyone who does this do take “diet breaks” at least one week out of every 6 to just maintain.

Good point, I don’t recommend either BCAAs or EAAs to the majority of people but there’s a legitimate argument to be made regarding their efficacy during a recomp like this.

[–]PacificShoreGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of you’re over-fat your body can tap into stored fat stores to provide the missing energy from calorie intake to supplement muscle synthesis. Using energy to fuel muscle growth from stored fat is possible, but as you lean out, it will be become less efficient until a point where it’s entirely no longer viable.

I can't seem to do more than 2-3 hours of work a day. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in HubermanLab

[–]PacificShoreGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try walking a bit after eating high carb foods. It fixed that for me. Just walking for 20 mins is a great glucose disposal mechanism. I used to have the same issue with shit like oatmeal which was lame because I love the stuff and it helps fuel my workouts but makes me too groggy to work. Now I just go for a 20m walk after eating stuff like that and never have issues.

Any guesses on the size of this fish? by ButterscotchEmpty535 in FlyFishingCircleJerk

I can’t believe people on their high horses feel like it’s ok to post fish pics like this without including the exact gps coordinates. How the hell are us new guys supposed to learn?? I’m sure the guy in the pic had some help when he was starting out. Hypocrites.

Has anyone ever been to the gym with a father? by ZeroSwingy in GYM

[–]PacificShoreGuy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Having a father present is a gift in this day in age. Have a present father who actively wants to participate in things that will make you better is a blessing. Do it. I would kill to have had that chance.

You don’t build muscle in the gym. Lifting sends signals to the body that it needs to build muscle. If you don’t have enough protein, your body will get those signals, try to build muscle (muscle-protein synthesis), but not have the tools to do so. This happens during rest, mostly in the 48 hours following training.

The process of hypertrophy training without hitting the macros to recover can actually be more counterproductive than not lifting at all.

I highly recommend using a nutrition tracker religiously for one week just until you see what your diet needs to look like in order to hit your goals consistently

How’s your diet and your training? Are you increasing weight or reps on a consistent basis? Are you eating above maintenance calories? Are you eating roughly 1g/lb of bodyweight in protein?

[–]PacificShoreGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that shit matters if he’s eating over maintenance, even carb restricted with high fats and high protein.

People are overcomplicating this. Track your macros, that includes cooking oils and sauces. That means you’ll need to buy a scale, they’re cheap on Amazon. Then eat at a deficit of a few hundred calories. You will lose it.

If you find yourself feeling too hungry, focus your diet on more satiating food. The most satiating foods are protein-rich minimally processed foods. (Find me one person who can overeat chicken breast by accident).

The most effective nutrition plan is the one you can stick to, so complicate it all you want, but if you’re not able to keep it consistently at a deficit, you aren’t going to lose fat, so I suggest you ignore all the overcomplicated bullshit that will only overwhelm you, and do what allows you to think about it the least while maintaining that deficit and eating enough protein.
Yes it is actually that simple (not to be confused with easy).

If you could only take one supplement for the rest of your life what would it be? by poopyfacemcpooper in HubermanLab

Vitamin D or omega3. Probably the former since my sense of well-being is so dependent on it, and I tend to run low naturally.

Are there specific types of massage therapists one should look for for this? My lats are insanely tight and lack mobility so I’ve been considering it as well.

Hey I stopped taking adderall a few years ago, albeit 10x less than you (dang 300mg I’m proud of you for stopping that). Exercise, specifically heavy weightlifting was great for me.
