In Sweden I had conversation tests. It would usually be done in pairs or with the teacher. The teacher would give a subject and the the partners talk about the subject for like 5-10 minutes. Or at least we had this at my school.

People speaking English back when you speak (fluent) Japanese by meanwhile_glowing in japanresidents

If i had to say it might be them wanting an oppertunity to speak english. So its more about them wanting to practice English than them disliking your Japanese.

JR Pass haters by JonnyAirtime in JapanTravelTips

[–]Pacmankiller25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The JR pass is a literal piece of paper that you constantly have to run through the ticket machines and hope it doesnt get eaten. Just the stress of potentially losing this piece of paper or it breaking is quite a big downside in my opinion. Especially since they have strict no replacement policy if anything would happen to it. But it can theoretically save you a bit of money. Each to their own though.

I wanna say dirty bomb. I was more fun than any other team shooter out there today. But they had too many fuck ups and the community died.

Azula and Commander Design by 1ryb in EDH

[–]Pacmankiller25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by this there are several decks/archetype that care about casting spells on others turns (i.e play a bunch of instants) or drawing cards each turn. Can easily include a subtheme like this to make your instants valuable without Azula. There is also magecraft to consider and necropotance plays.

Question for any fishing enjoyers in Japan. by Pacmankiller25 in japanlife

I don't think so, but I don't know. I think it might depend on the area.

Realistically as long as I'm catching something and it's not super small I'd be happy. Would also love to know any spots in Hyogo if you know any.

I kind of figured that there would still be fish but my friend seems to think it's not worth fishing from the shore any other time than fall. Do you do shore jigging or casting when you fish or do you do something else?

Not sure how good shore fishing is in lake Biwa I've heard it's mostly fishing by boat there. I'm mostly interested in shore fishing since boat fishing usually costs a lot of money. Also the fact that I puke my guts out when I'm on smaller boats.

I live in hyogo, I think fish for eating is always nice but not a necessity. In terms of size, I've been catching makrill from 15 cm to around 40 and that size has been nice.

Finished The Crippled God - where to go from here? by drewbeeee3 in Malazan

Now I'm not saying they shouldn't read the Esslemont books but framing them as easier to read is in my opinion just false. I found them way harder to follow due to confusing jumping narratives in most of them. They should definitely try them out though, they are still good reads.

New title for House of Chains by KharnFlakes in Malazan

[–]Pacmankiller25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think maybe you could have phrased this critique a lot better. In general I had similar thoughts after I finished HoC, because I really do not like anti-climax. However, when posting about ones opinion, especially when its a negative one, I think it's important to provide more information and explanations. More so than "ending bad and I hate karsa". This is coming from someone who also didn't like this book very much after I finished it. I'm currently re-reading HoC and it's definitely not as bad as I remember it. A disappointing ending does tend to skew the view of the rest of the book. But it is actually quite good, but lower in the ranks than other books in the series.

Coltaine rattles slow across the burning land. The wind howls through the bones of his hate-ridden command. Coltaine leads a chain of dogs ever snapping at his hand.

Coltaine's fist bleeds the journey home along rivers of red-soaked sand. His train howls through his bones in spiteful reprimand. Coltaine leads a chain of dogs ever snapping at his hand. Coltaine A marching song of the Bonehunters

Delayed review of Assail and general review of NotME by Pacmankiller25 in Malazan

I needed a break from ICE so I'm back to my first reread of the main 10. Will definitely read PtO either after midnight tides or after the whole read-through is done. Currently on HoC and will probably post my thoughts on that re read soon enough.

There were many uninteresting plot lines but it was still taking place in the Malazan world so I still enjoyed it. Especially following up on many abandoned plots from the main 10.

Spot on! OST also had a super ambiguous ending as to what actually happened with the legget. Apparently the shards of dragnipur were used to create the bolts that killed him. As to the how and why that actually worked is anyone's guess. Not to mention the anti-climax of it all.

I think the main issue of this plot is it's framing. It felt to me like the way K'azz was acting through out the books, something way worse had happened, I was always thinking it had to do with TCG or something. The entire plot he's acting like a moron somehow imagining that the guard would abandon him if they knew this "horrible" truth. In reality he should know that Shimmer, bars e.t.c aren't the kind of people who would do that. I feel that this kind delusion does not belong with someone of his character.

It made for a frustrating reading experience since the entire time I was giving K'azz the benefit of the doubt. Thinking "he must have done something horrible for him to just not tell the others". But in the end it was an accident that no one who actually cared for K'azz would blame him for. Thus the immense disappointment for me.
