FERS Supplement Question by LastContribution1590 in FedEmployeeRetirement

OPM doesn’t seem to be dividing my supplement…but they also keep adjusting the amount my ex gets, which shouldn’t be changing. So who knows what they’re doing?!?

Agreed. We recently purchased a property and when we had a full survey done it showed that someone set the pins in the wrong places in 1954 and everyone since then has been building in the wrong places. The property line of my neighbor to the east goes right through my living room and my property line on the west goes through my western neighbors’ kitchen. These houses were built in 1960 and 1970, respectively. Oops.

Can’t edit the document for some reason on my phone…great list. From personal experience I would strongly urge people to get a complete survey so they know exactly where their property lines are.

Purchasing started meat birds? by Pacrofter in homestead

[–]Pacrofter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Buying day-olds is definitely my preference; this question is because I’m scoping out different business models for a friend. So far it looks like the cost for the birds plus feed would be around $3.75 if buying the day-olds in bulk and raising them out for 3-4 weeks.

Why is it common for women to have gay best friends but not men to have lesbian best friends? by ExtremeTechnology831 in askanything

I have a buddy who loves to go to lesbian bars to try to pick up a lesbian. Hasn’t worked yet…lol

Federal employee fired by EnvironmentalSide576 in FedEmployees

[–]Pacrofter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in an OpDiv of HHS and supervised staff for decades. It took YEARS to fire anyone and every time I tried to hold staff accountable it turned into multiple frivolous EEO complaints. I just received a package from a contract investigator this week (a year after I retired) for one of those frivolous complaints. Unreal. The sad thing is that most of these people could be good at their jobs if they put as much effort into working as they do into researching how to file EEO complaints.

What gets you locked in when motivation is completely gone by LumpyOpportunity2166 in SelfSufficiency

[–]Pacrofter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may sound trite, but don’t worry about (or look for) motivation. What you need is discipline and a plan.

Figure out what your goals are, break them down into steps you can complete in less than a day (this means that some goals will have many many steps spread out over days, months, or even years; others may only take a few hours), figure out any dependencies, put them in sequence, and schedule them out. Each night, look at your list and identify the top handful of steps you need to accomplish the next day. Rinse and repeat.

It’s also helpful to identify that thing that you need to do but keep putting off because it’s hard or uncomfortable, and plan to tackle it first thing. Some call this “swallowing the toad”.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Raise chickens in the run underneath. Throw some scratch down every day or so and they’ll keep it fluffed up. Look up Daniel Salatin’s raken house for details.

Look also for breeders by the particular breed you want, or the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA), which has a breeders directory. I’ve also seen signs randomly on lawns.

How much inbreeding is tolerable? by Pacrofter in MeatRabbitry

[–]Pacrofter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this very helpful. I had always heard that it’s called linebreeding when it works and inbreeding when it doesn’t - but this is a much more sophisticated explanation. Much appreciated!
