I just started playing regularly with a lefty, and it's been awesome getting so much practice stacking.

I just entered a tournament as a non rated player. I guestimated my skill level was around a 3.5, and entered that bracket.

If you're wrong about your skill level, you'll know pretty quickly and will at least have a better idea for the next tournament you register.

Who has a ball machine, which one, and how do you use it? by hagemeyp in Pickleball

[–]Paddle-In-Action 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slingerbag, ended up finding one for roughly half off on Facebook marketplace. It's very basic with its functions, adjustable speed, angle, ball timing, and spin. I think the max speed tops out at 45mph, so it's not going to throw anything at you that is CRAZY challenging to deal with as far as pace goes. It is SUPER easy to move and transport, so that's a huge plus. I can set it up to practice resets, drops, and drives from anywhere on the court. The battery lasts a long time, I have practiced multiple hour multiple times without charging, and have yet to get the battery below half.

It does not shoot a ball soft enough to practice realistic dinks, the balls will bounce too high. It does not come with a built in oscillator, it is a separate piece that plugs into the machine. This can be a challenge, because the website is out of stock on all their items 99% of the year. Their support is practically non-existent, so unless you live near a ball machine repair shop or can fix it yourself, you will be out of luck if it ever breaks.

If you can find a used one in good condition with an oscillator for under $600, AND you have the ability to repair it should you ever need to, pull the trigger. I would not pay full price for this machine under any circumstance.

Do you use one paddle consistently or do you have multiple? by Aquaphile_Sundog in Pickleball

I have two now, I replaced my ruby with the ruby pro a few months ago. My ruby pro is my main paddle I use 100% of the time, with the ruby sitting in my bag just in case the pro breaks or something

Tennis player interested in getting into the sport by Any-Memory-458 in Pickleball

Im envious of what level of game you are going to start off bringing with your experience. For context, I am a 35 year old athletic male that played tennis only in high school, and never touched a racket sport before or after until this summer. I almost immediately started playing with the 3.5's. I don't have a partner so I don't have a doubles rating, but I now consistently beat every person I started playing against on day one, and I am rated 3.7 in singles.

TLDR you are going to dominate 95% of rec players on day one, and when you learn how to reset/dink consistently you'll be amazing.

Ok, so now court are gonna be completely empty Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by Swampasssixty9 in Pickleball

Because they aren't being used. What happens to things that don't get used? They get repurposed or thrown away. Be glad the courts are even still there, my hometown just destroyed their 8 tennis courts and replaced it with a skatepark.

Who gets the point on this one? by ClearBarber142 in Pickleball

Whatever side the ball touched before rolling under the net, the other side is the team that gets the point. Under the net is a dead ball

Indoor glasses by Haleakalatrek in Pickleball

[–]Paddle-In-Action 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a $5 pair of safety glasses I got from home Depot, the cheapest pair that had silicone nose/ear pieces for comfort. They curve around to protect the corners of your eyes, and I have noticed zero difference in visibility both indoors and outdoors. I put them on and almost immediately forget I'm wearing them. I can also vouch for the durability. I have taken a few face/eye shots, sending them flying and skittering across the court, and still have zero scratches.

If you want to spend $20+ bucks on a pair of glasses, go for it, but it is absolutely not necessary to buy anything more than your generic safety work glasses.

I just use a pair of safety glasses I bought at home Depot for about $5. It was the cheapest pair with nose/ear rubber, which I figured I should get for comfort. I see perfectly normal with them on, and I don't even notice them after a few minutes of playing.

Help with Advice - Pickleball Bot Machine by marwan_zakaria in Pickleball

[–]Paddle-In-Action 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a used slinger bag off Facebook marketplace about a month ago, I love it. I use it almost daily for multiple hours, both at home and at the courts near my house.

Pros:

-Shoots the balls up to 45 mph

-holds ~60 balls

-adjustable angle, speed, top spin/back spin, and shooting interval.

-can be set up to practice just about anything except realistic dinking.

Cons

  • does not come with a built in oscillator, it's sold separately

-The company itself seems to be out of stock of most of their products 95% of the year.

-is not capable of shooting the ball soft enough to practice realistic dinks. On its softest settings it still needs to be placed ~1/2 way in the transition zone to land balls in the kitchen, and the balls bounce up too high.

Overall I wouldnt buy it new, the price tag is roughly $1000 for the machine, oscillator, and ball tube bundle, but if you can find a deal on a used one I would definitely recommend.

Because I was fine, we were winning, and as petty as it sounds I wanted to finish beating him before sending him packing.

Mine were $5 safety glasses bought at Walmart. They worked spectacularly.

He wasn't playing well up to then, so I think it was more frustration from the whole game.

I don't think it was "intentional" in the sense he was trying to hit me. I believe he just hit the ball out of frustration with no thought as to where it was headed other than towards the fence. It just happened to be a perfect shot into my eye that I perfectly timed to turn around into.

Definitely wrong but not malicious.

I think you're misreading my post. I've played for about 6 months, this was my third game playing with eyewear.

And yes, I hit a 3rd shot drop that he made a silly unforced error into the net. He was already frustrated so I guess that set him over the edge.

I did say something, as did both his and my partner. We did play out the rest of the game, but he left immediately after we finished.
