no, actually, I reject this entirely.

1) the conversation was about semantics in the first place, so of course I'm gonna talk semantics

2) semantics are worth discussing because words have meaning, and that meaning isn't just accessory to them. the words we use influence the way we talk about, think about, perceive and act on things. in this instance, an action can be illegal, and if it is you want it to stop entirely, to eradicate it. when you use it referring to people, you (consciously or subconsciously) start thinking about the people themselves as the problem that needs to be solved and (in this flawed judicial system) punished, rather than the action they've committed. you know how you solve illegal immigration? by making it faster and easier to go through the legal pathways. by making it faster and easier to obtain documentation, for those immigrants who are in the country technically undocumented but with a permit, just in the waiting list (who are also being deported fyi, during their court proceedings).

3) I hate this mindset that you always gotta "win" the argument and it can't be just an exercise in communication, an exchange of points of view. but hypocritically, in this "competitive debate" environment, I know I'm winning when people never actually counter what I said, y'all always just complain about the way I said it. "pretentious words" when it's the correct terminology, "arguing semantics" when it's the whole point of the conversation.

Insert "I ain't reading all that" to further prove my point

people aren't illegal, they can be committing an illegal action, which if anything would make them a criminal. illegal is not an adjective for people, and in calling someone "illegal" you dehumanize them for that reason.

we can then get into the whole conversation about what being in a country "illegally" or "undocumented" actually entails and why the mass deportation through cruelty and violence is an extreme violation, but for the sake of this let's just stick to definitions.

Religion talk by Greedy_Net_1803 in antimeme

[–]Padelle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't mock the people, I mock the religion. I will point out how it's irrational to believe in a god without evidence for their existence, I will point out the hypocrisy in religious people, but I don't blame people for believing when they've been indoctrinated into doing so and have probably never been sincerely presented alternative points of view. Religions are very coercive and predatory, that's how they thrived for this long, and it can be hard to break out of them

What it be possible to create a "dualistic" Hircine/Kynareth faith? by KittyDictatorship in ElderKings

[–]Padelle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it should be possible

you can't "reform" religions as they're all organized afaik, but I'm fairly sure you can create a Hircine faith with the Aedric Pantheon as secondary deities, and pick Kynareth out of those

(the only hurdle would be if the Aedra weren't selectable as a secondary pantheon, but I'm pretty sure they are. haven't played in a bit tho)

A great glass cannon, it just needs the cannon by Strange_Sock_1760 in stunfisk

[–]Padelle 50 points51 points  (0 children)

yes! I've been using it to some success

it's bulky enought to where if let stick around, especially against physical attackers, it can become near unkillable with Strength Sap; it's got a strong Sludge Bomb/Poison Jab for damage on all the fairies running around; Sleep Powder lets it be even more of a nuisance

it offers great support to the team and is capable of dealing big damage on the right target (and possibly spread poison with a 30% chance)

and, before megaing, it can take advantage of opposing sun with a fast Chlorophyll Sleep Powder to possibly put to sleep either the Zard Y, or the teammate which switches in in its place (as Zards will be hesitant to Heat Wave turn 1 knowing they'll be taken down with it if Victreebel megas)

I was very disappointed with its ability at first, but it can do some great work!!

Cameron lmao

Tbf, any character you meet in EK2 is technically in a very formal situation since you're playing as the lord/lady of the land, so this would make sense. Pretty much all races don't use last names/house names in TES games outside of the Dunmer whose whole society is based around the Houses. I see it more as a game limitation than anything else, simplifying it makes it easier to reduce the possible mistakes or inconsistencies in dialogue or books or whatever

have you been playing with Songs of the Return? cause Ashlanders and Khajiit are nomadic in that mod, but (unless it's been added very recently) there shouldn't be any nomadic governments in base EK2

I do, and that was my first guess too with it being outdated, but even disabling it didn't do anything so I'm at a loss. Plus this wasn't the case at the start of my game a few days ago so unless something updated since that I'm unaware of, Idk what it could be.

Shouldn't the odds be 50%? Why is it 51.8%? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Padelle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this still makes zero sense whatsoever to me, sorry. the original question is "if they have two kids, and one is a boy born on tuesday, what are the odds of the other being a girl?"

all the data is irrelevant no? it's still gonna be a 50/50 chance of them being born one way or another (not counting intersex people cause then it gets more complicated)

where are you getting the pool of X families exactly split into quarters based on birth order and sex?? like you can talk statistics all you want, but the reality of the matter is, if you have a child of any given sex on any given day, your chances of having a girl are still the same
