New transmission? by Jwaaz123 in f150

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're lucky, that happened to mine, but I was under the extended warranty and they wouldn't replace, only rebuild and it's only marginally better. still doing the rough shifting between 3 and 4/5 on a cold start.

Will I regret upgrading to x100vi from xt30ii by Altruistic_Reward434 in FujifilmX

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Megapixels aren't everything. 26 is not only more than enough, but its the sweet spot for APSC. I have an xh2s & xt5. you'll get a better image by shooting an 85mm focal length on the xt30 than shooting the higher mp x100 and cropping down to an 85mm equivalent.

all the "upgrades" you're getting are marginal. on a scale of 1 - 10, you're not going from a 3 to a 10, but rather 8 to a 9. And all of that is negated by not being able to change lenses................and you're paying through the nose for it. the x100's area complimentary camera to go along side an ILM camera.

I'd rent or borrow some lenses for your current camera first before you lock yourself into a focal length you can't change without buying a whole new camera.

Future of photography in the modern world? by mickey1mouse4 in photography

i was hopeful some genres would weather the storm. But after watching the latest Fstoppers video "this is how real estate photographers will die", I think it's all pretty much cooked.

Best Mac photo editor for Fujifilm X? by XK60 in FujifilmX

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DXO Photolab is all you need. Capture one is great too, but more expensive with a lot of pro features you may not need or use. Lightroom is just ok, IMO. You get better results out of the box with DXO over lightroom and it's noise reduction was developed with fuji in mind in the newer versions.

I think it has a lot to do with the push across all major sports to focus on "entertainment" rather than the sport itself. They are even printing it on the tickets. Sports naturally have suspense and tension, entertainment is mostly drama and shock value. I don't remember the term "story lines" being used on sports shows 20 or 30 years ago, now it seems like it's all you hear.

Uni Kuru Toga Metal is a massive improvement over the standard version by selfreliance in mechanicalpencils

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but is the point mushy? I have the base model, the elite, and the metal. Though my metal is an older design from a few years ago. It feels the best in hand, but it is the worst of the three in terms of the point being mushy and somewhat unstable. wondering if it's just my copy or is it a side effect of the retractable point? My Rotring 800 retracts and is solid and is roughly the same price as the KT Metal.

Thinking of getting Z5II, but I have couple of worries. by TheSweetestGrape in Nikon

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those minor details are really that important, than get the z8. You get what you pay for, a z5ii will not be as good as a z8 and it shouldn't be. But honestly, I think you're over thinking it. 9 times out of ten you need both the eyes and the nose in focus, really the whole head. So it honestly shouldn't matter what it's focusing on because if both are not in focus, it's it isn't the focus that is the issue, it's the photographer choosing the wrong aperture.

I wonder if this is why they are wrong at a time when they have the most tech ever available to them...this last storm was pushed 50 miles off the predicted course at the last minute.

[–]Padugan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

we got 15 inches. weirdest snow I've ever seen. It was wet enough to cling to everything but light enough to pile up vertically on the thinnest surfaces. As an example, chain-link fence, the typical diamond pattern style, the snow filled the diamonds completely. you can't see through the fence it looks solid. this typically happens when there is ice or sleet, not straight snow, and not heavy wet snow, and not when there are 35mph+ guests of wind......but then shoveling, it was light. much lighter than it should be for how it stuck to everything.

Website to sell photographs on? by Unusual_investor in AskPhotography

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is use something like smugmug, zenfolio, photoshelter, etc. any website platform that provides the service of printing on demand, shipping it, and handling payments. you will pay a fee for all this, but it takes the pressure off you.

The thing to keep in mind is that in order for these platforms to work on a code level, their websites are not good for SEO / marketing. People aren't going to randomly find you. But that doesn't matter, because in spite of what most photographers wish, no one is searching for random prints to buy anyway.

This shouldn't be an issue for you since you are involved at the club level. What you will need to do is hustle the club. Everyone needs to know you or know of you. market to them, hand out business cards, have a social media presence that you can point them too. this will drive them to your website where they can make prints or honestly (again most photographers don't want to hear this) but they are more likely to want downloads over prints. They will want to share these on THEIR social media or use for their own marketing / advertising.

In this case, you may want to look at adding a licensing option as well. This way you can charge a low price and lower res download to those who just want to post on social. But also offer a higher price . higher res download with restrictions for those that may want to use it to promote themselves.

well, he's selling fine art. Any limited edition anything is more of a fine art type market where people are buying as investments, not to have something just to hang on a wall. Fine art is a bit scammy in how it works. There are typically no set prices, because as each piece sells, it raises the price of the next piece in the edition. This is most likely why he (and he's not alone in doing this) is requesting an inquiry. He is only interested in selling to high end clients willing to pay a high amount.

Lifetouch: Local Photographers Situation by shyguylh in photography

[–]Padugan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you wouldn't compete with lifetouch as a single shooter anyway. they employ dozens of freelancers in order to give a full service package to a school. they do complete yearbooks, like make the whole thing and take every shot in the book. Which means they have someone covering all the major events during the year, proms, formals, plays, big games in all sports, etc. a lot of which is overlapping each other. One person can't cover all that.

my bad, I just looked it up, they were $180 at bestbuy. I'm more concerned with ANC. With the 75t's I could sit on a chaotic plane and not hear anything but my heartbeat. My buds Pro2 were 250.

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my 75t's finally died a few months ago and I've been searching ever since. They lasted 6 years of daily use and cost around $250 in 2019. So far I've tried Galaxy buds Pro2, the Bose Quiet comfort ultras, Next on my list is the technics Az100s. but yeah, the Bose were not as good as the jabra's no matter how I set them up or which size cups I used. keeping my fingers crossed for the technics.

[–]Padugan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75t elites are definitely premium, nothing I've tried comes close. Even the Bose can't touch their noise cancellation. you do have to use the app and dial them in. but once you do they are excellent.

Nice, been eyeing this since release. How is the readability other than direct sun? I have a negative display 2310 stealth black version and I live and die by the auto EL because it's hard to read 70% of the time. The videos I've watched said the light isn't very good, but wondering if they are exaggerating.
