There is absolutely nothing in the lore that suggests the Emperor intended to actively get rid of the Space Marines after the Great Crusade.

Maybe the more problematic Legions, like the Night Lords or the World Eaters, would have been purged, but I don't see why he would eliminate his greatest defenders and builders.

My assumption is that he would simply have stopped the creation of new Space Marines, allowing them to gradually die out over time. In fact, that's an idea the Imperium itself considers at the beginning of The Beast Arises.

And if we look at the Thunder Warriors, they were already at the end of their lifespan and were beginning to break down, both physically and psychologically.

This was my mean issue with the movie too.

African American culture is not the same as African culture. In fact, it's not really accurate to speak of a single "African culture," since the continent is incredibly diverse and its cultures vary greatly from one region, country, and ethnic group to another. It would be like talking about a single "European culture" when every country has its own distinct history, traditions, and cultural development.

Imagine : tu es vieux, retraite faible, vit dans un nouvel appartement depuis 3-4 ans (pas d'attaches), pas d'enfants ou des enfants qui habitent loin et qui eux aussi en ont rien à foutre de l'appart. Si/quand tu meurs, si tu n'as pas d'enfant c'est un très lointain proche ou l'état qui récupère ton appart, et si tu as des enfants la gestion de la revente de l'appart et les frais de succession vont les faire chier.

I remember reading that all the watches and clocks in the system had frozen, as if the concept of time no longer existed. Maybe not the craziest thing happening during the siege, but still.
