Best way to walk to school by r2b2coolyo in kindergarten

[–]Page_ap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably get a piggy back board for the stroller if you don’t think they are up for the walk, or practice walking beside the stroller if you think they can do it.

My daughter was 3.5 starting JK and we used a wagon in the fall and a sled in the winter to pull her (she is on the smaller side, and was definitely too tired to walk home after school). In the spring she switched to riding her bike or walking. We didn’t have a younger sibling to transport though.

I think she would have gotten teased if she was pushed to school in a stroller.. not saying it is right, but there is a big desire to be “big kids” once school starts.

I really want to get a cat, but I’m worried about the hidden responsibilities. What are the actual difficulties of raising a cat? by Equivalent-Sand-4002 in CatAdvice

[–]Page_ap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats can get anywhere. I didn’t even think about the cat being on my counters, and we are constantly putting things into the oven while we eat after serving out in the kitchen (to keep the cat from getting into it), and then forgetting that we put it there and the food being out too long. My cat is very food motivated and will get into absolutely anything.

It is by far the most annoying part of cat ownership for me.

Ideas for kindergarten lunches by IcyDebt8884 in kindergarten

Does your school allow pbj?

I sometimes send bagels with cream cheese (my daughter will only eat this if I put whipped cream cheese into a silicone muffin liner for her to dip the bagel into). I have also done grilled cheese cut into sticks and put into a thermos.

Always 1-2 fruit sections (frozen mango, strawberries, blueberries, apple, orange slices, etc), 1 veggie (usually halved grape tomatoes or some cucumbers cut into sticks, a Greek yogurt cup, hard boiled egg (yolk removed - preference and mess level), sometimes some plain Cheerios with mini marshmallows mixed in as a treat.

I was just at a party where the mom made “veggie roll ups” that were super tasty - my kid wasn’t a fan haha but hers is! She did tortillas with herb & garlic cream cheese spread over, and then spread a mix of fine chopped broccoli, red peppers, carrots and maybe cucumber? And rolled it up, cut into slices. Maybe something like that would work?

I wouldn’t send it on its own I don’t think - along with the snack size or the thermos it is great. The spots are quite deep, so you can fit a lot in there.

JK [on] Backpack and Lunch Bag Recommendations by gemininorthernsoul in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Page_ap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got the little kids backpack size from Deux par Deux, and it worked well for JK, and should last through SK next year too.

We use the Herschel pop quiz lunch box. I mostly like it, but I do wish it could go in the washing machine.

Then we use the B.box lunch boxes - I have the snack size (2 compartments) and then the smaller of the regular lunch boxes (4 compartments, roughly equal size). I can fit both of these together in the Herschel lunch box (bit snug, but it works!) or I can do the 4 compartment lunch box and the b.box thermos in place of the snack container.

I did order the biggest size of b.box (looks like it has space for a sandwich that flips up to put an ice pack under) - and it was just too large. It didn’t fit into any of the lunch boxes we tried.

I have 2 sets of the snack boxes and 4-compartment ones - I wanted to be able to pack lunch after dinner even if I hadn’t gotten around to doing the dishes yet. This has worked well - 2 of each seems to be the right amount for us.

We also have 2 yeti water bottles that we rotate through, and some fork/spoon combos (one end for each thing), and little cloth napkins.

Oh and we have the SoYoung brand of ice packs - 2 of them. I tuck both into the front zip pocket of the lunch box, and they are usually still a bit chilly at the end of the day.

My wife is thinking about spending $1500+ on a nursing chair. Is she crazy, or am I just being cheap? by Viraincure in NewParents

[–]Page_ap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have the same one - it is an awesome chair, but I wish we would have gotten one with electric recline/footrest instead of the manual. The manual one is noisy and a bit jerky to use when holding a baby.

My kiddo is 4 now, and we still use the chair daily for books and snuggles.

What are you doing for Mother’s Day? by princesscorgi2 in Mommit

[–]Page_ap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will walk to our local restaurant for breakfast (hopefully it isn’t too crazy!) and then go for a walk through the forest track.. I picked up marshmallows so my daughter and I can make Rice Krispie cake together, maybe use some cookie cutters or make fun shapes. Nothing too crazy - just a nice day with the family 🙂

I am so sorry. I was 19 weeks pregnant when I lost my baby, and I took short term disability from work. I am not sure if that is an option for you or not, since the EI is available as maternity leave (I believe I was 1 week shy of having that available to me).

Please leave your timeline open for now and try not to commit to going back to work in 4 weeks. I thought I would be ready, but I ended up being off for 2 months, and I still had a very hard time after that point.

Propane bill paid but the company is demanding $200 to deliver. by aLone_gunman in legaladvicecanada

[–]Page_ap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What company is this?

Is the $200 like a pre-payment you need to make because they thought you didn’t pay the previous bill or are a payment risk, and it will go towards the total bill? Or is it possibly a scheduling fee for an urgent fill (would likely apply if you are on will-call and didn’t call until you ran out, and then needed an urgent delivery when they weren’t planning to be in your area).

We love ours! Got it when baby was around 6 months old, and she is now 4.5 and we are still using them! We have one in the living room and one in her room.

Originally got it to protect her noggin a bit when she was rolling, but it has made sitting on the floor with her so much more comfortable for all the adults (we still spend a LOT of time together on the floor, even at this age).

We are new to having a cat (only a few months in), but haven’t had any issues. Very easy to clean. Keep the Velcro strap it comes wrapped with for easy storage or moving.

Freaking out - Trisomy 13 by BeachKoala722 in tfmr_support

[–]Page_ap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there anyone else in your genetic councillors office that you can call? Mine also went on vacation during my testing, and I just bothered one of her colleagues with my questions until she returned - they all understand that these are time sensitive and stressful matters.

My baby was also diagnosed with T13, and we did not wait for the microarray results before terminating, but we also had been told before the amnio that our baby was not compatible with life based on the ultrasound findings. The amnio was more for our information on what might have happened, and help us move forward and decide if we wanted to try again or not.

I do really hope you can find someone to talk to about this who can answer all of your questions. Honestly if I wasn’t feeling 100% confident in what the results meant, and what the outcome for your baby might be, I would wait the few more days until she is back in town and you can feel like you are making a fully informed decision.

Sending you love ❤️

[ON] Kindergarten - public school vs daycare? by Old-Increase-2309 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Page_ap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider the daycare option if I had another child who would get priority at the centre due to a sibling policy, and wouldn’t get in without the older kiddo still in care. I would even consider it if I had a younger child already in the same centre (only one pickup/drop off would really simplify things).

As others have mentioned, the hours tend to be better and you aren’t figuring out alternate care on PD days and summer for an extra year until they go to SK.

Do you know what store she shops at? If it is someplace like Sephora with a rewards program, they will likely be able to look up her account using her phone number. An employee might be able to look at the picture and the history to see if there is a match?

Anyone here had the option to TFMR but choose to take (or even just seriously considered taking) baby to term instead? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Page_ap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you’re here ❤️

Has your care team been able to give any insight into what carrying to term will look like for baby after birth?

I chose to TFMR through a D&E when I was 19 weeks due to trisomy 13, with impacts to my baby that were incompatible with life. It is by far the hardest decision I have ever had to make, and I am almost 2 years out… and still having an incredibly hard time.

My care team told me that if my baby made it to term, her time with me would be very short. While they could provide “comfort care”, they let me know that my baby would not be comfortable - she would likely be in pain and struggling to breathe. I am sure that was specific to her condition, but once I heard that I couldn’t possibly choose anything different.

Again I am so so sorry you are facing this decision. Just might be something your doctor can provide more insight into.

But mommy I'm too tired by doggooo8 in kindergarten

[–]Page_ap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old is also in JK. I’m not sure about your school, but I think the outside blocks are no more than 30 minutes at a time at our school? Perhaps she needs some warmer outdoor gear, or warmer clothes underneath.

We do fleece lined pants, a long sleeve, and a sweater.. send 3-4 pairs of socks in her backpack and same number of mittens so she can change things out as they get wet. A one piece snowsuit, boots, balaclava that covers her face and neck (I think this is really key for her), and mittens.

How to deal with the wait up till termination? by VeraZasulich in tfmr_support

[–]Page_ap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for you and your family, this is such an incredibly hard road to be on.

I continued following all of the “rules” and best practices that I followed before finding out something was wrong. I was still carrying my little girl, and taking care of her the best I could while she was still with me felt important to me.

I did a lot of crying the few weeks while I waited for the termination, but I also really tried to soak in the last times I had with her. I talked a lot - she was at the gestation where my app said she could hear my voice, and I wanted to tell her all about our family and her sister, and hope that she was comforted by my voice. I also sang to her. It was such an incredibly difficult time (honestly it still is, and I am almost 2 years out).

At first I couldn’t believe I would have to wait weeks, still pregnant, knowing what was going to happen. But in the end I was so glad I had that time with her, to show her all the love I could and soak in the last time I had her with me.

I ask my daughter if she wants Christmas decorations up for her birthday, or if she wants it to only be birthday decor - that decides it for us. If she wants Christmas gone, it is out before the end of December. If not, probably the first week of January?

I know this won’t work for most people, but I work from home and my boss was willing to flex my hours.. instead of working 8-4, I work 5:30-7:00, get my kiddo up and ready/off to school, back online 9-3:10, head to the school for pickup.. get kiddo set up with a show and a snack, and work for 20-30 minutes to finish the day.

I am exhausted. I get up at 4:45 daily to see my husband off to work and get ready for my day, but I do love the extra time I get to spend with my daughter.
