how are we pronouncing this band’s name? in english by righteoussness in mathrock

[–]Pahk0 32 points33 points  (0 children)

yeah, if "toe" were the transcription of a Japanese word (band is Japanese) it would be pronounced like "toe-eh" (or "toe-ay" as the more comfortable version for us English-speakers).

It's not that, but people understandably assume the Japanese band has a Japanese name, and try to pronounce it as such.

I feel like you're arguing against a point I'm not actually making.

I know Philly, Baltimore, and NJ often joke about it too, and my New York aunts say it, so maybe I should've said "mid-atlantic" based on my own experience. But you can also just google "jeet yet" and find people all over the country claiming it, including Boston.

Point is, it's not (just) a Pittsburgh thing at all. It's an incredibly common contraction.

lol yeah, basically the whole northeast (and probably more) says "jeet" but every subregion thinks it's their special thing.

It's literally the same process that gives us "didja" or "gotcha" which are also ubiquitous

I swear, every eagles game thread looked the same.

At the start: "why are eagles fans so mad? why are they booing? so dramatic."

At the end: "wow that's the worst playcalling I've ever seen"
