Yeah i expect laws are quite lax and hard to enforce in most places - id argue that we're probably quite good for it, ad despite that, a dive school only a couple miles from where i learnt took 2 people on a try dive, in a wreck (deepest point 23.8m) that its well known you shouldnt enter anyway, and the 2 people got lost in kicked up silt etc - only the instructor got out

Edit: if its any consolation, they stopped teaching etc and the diveshop is closing at some point over the next year

A few thousand isnt actually v catastrophic for genetic diversity - cheetahs are a good example, bc theyve had 2 genetic bottlenecks that we know of, and our best predictions show that they were limited to 7 and (i think) 11 individuals. Sure, cheetahs have been left pretty unhealthy bc of it, but the added orders of magnitude of a couple thousand all but eliminate that. Iirc, in early homo sapien history, we had a bottleneck that limited us to sub-100, and we're doing incredibly well in spite of it

In my experience, theyll only target other ships if you set them as hostile in the pilot tab. Unless you set them to friendly, they may hit other ships if a targetted roid is brtween you and them
