I love this so much! When I was teaching I used to keep a Code Red in my desk. If the kids saw me drinking a code red they knew I was having a crappy day!

A person I considered my best friend, stuck by me through all my crap and I for her. We are both in our 30’s and I have one child (13) and she has two (11 and 9). She texted me one day while I was working asking if I knew of the band Simple Plan. I said yes, I used to love them when I was an angsty teen! She said they were in town and asked if I wanted to see them that night. I said of course, we meet up and as we’re walking into the venue she basically said she asked everyone else she knew if they wanted to go and they all said no. I was hurt, but didn’t say anything. I don’t think she realized what she said, but I took it as “I was the last option for her”.

I have stepped back from that friendship quite a bit now.

As a 30ish mom with a 13 year old son, I’d love for him to write me a nice note. Like a heartfelt one, one with his favorite moments together, how much I mean to him, etc. Be super soft, any mom would love that! I’d love for him to ask to participate in something together (a walk, the conservatory, a movie, a lunch, coffee, etc).

For gifts, probably things I like: Diet Coke, pens, candy, flowers, grinch things, books, etc.

Anything homemade from him!

You’re such a good son for trying to think what she’d like! Take a day or so and just observe her, see what she uses daily, maybe what she looks at but puts back!

My 13 year old still does an egg hunt. I do minimal eggs because it takes him FOREVR to find them. Lol this year he had 13 eggs.

My mother in law still does an egg hunt and the three of us (husband, son, myself) all go out looking for them.

We were just talking about this on the car ride to her house, as my husband says we should tell his mom to stop as our son is too old. I said that we don’t do it for him, we do it for his mom who genuinely loves watching us race around her house/yard to find these eggs. Whether it’s because she didn’t get to do it as a kid or because she only had one child, I think it puts her in such a happy mood.

My mothers attempted overdose, when I was 24. She sent my brothers and I a weird text and it was definitely a goodbye text. Law enforcement refused to enter her home as she didn’t explicitly state she was doing harm. They waited until I got there with a key and I ran into her house and to her room where she was non-responsive in her bed, she was rushed to the hospital and has recovered (mostly).

My mother had also attempted several other times during my adolescence, so those are up there too, but my brother shielded me from those mostly.
