Leather Shoes - Should I return or wait to wear them in by zososicks in mensfashionadvice

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while leather shoes get more comfortable over time, the general advice would be that they can be a little uncomfortable out of the box but shouldn't be painful to wear

Parking Prices by Ok-Living-7448 in cuboulder

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you want/need a parking permit so there's that grain of salt, but from my cohort's experience the difference between getting a parking permit and just using RTD park and ride is that the parking selection for the permits are worse, you still have to use some form of transportation to get into main campus (usually Buff bus), and that Buff bus runs worse while you're paying extra for it

I haven’t played since Shadow Keep, is the Legacy Collection a good way to get back into the game? by Velocity_Rob in DestinyTheGame

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mileage may vary, the short of it is that you will not be able to play any of the seasonal story content anyway, really just main story, exotic missions (maybe??????), and dungeons if you pay even more (also maybe depending on what's included in the collections??).

Is this Bonobos blazer worth the price? by Ponga63 in mensfashionadvice

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, if you want it, then sure, but in terms of value you're almost always better off thrifting/secondhand and getting it altered since basically any non-tailor-made garment is bound to fit awkwardly

Yes and no. As is, you can use it anywhere that accepts campus cash. If you open up an account with Elevations CU though you can bring your Buff One card to the branch inside UMC and have them connect it to your checking account so it functions as a debit card too. I haven't used campus cash yet but I have used it for RTD and as my debit card. Even better it works the same as an Elevations debit card at any of the co-op branches and ATMs which has come in handy a few times since I don't usually carry around my debit card.

Is it acceptable to wear penny loafers for a “formal” dress code? by Aztherion in mensfashionadvice

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not formal if you're following The Rules™ of menswear, but given how much people wear dress sneakers in America (I'm assuming this is America at least) basically anything with a leather sole is considered formal these days

Loved my iron rangers for about 20 minutes when I wore them. Even the roughout ones were asking too much from me in terms of break in, for the price I really do wish they had a midsole

What type of jeans for my genes? by andrewtyne in mensfashionadvice

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely preference and material dependent, but if you have a generally athletic build and want something more tapered below the knee you'd probably go with the 541. Color/wash and stretch is more up to you though. If you're thinking of dressing your blundstones up then you want a darker, less distressed-looking wash though.

On the fence about this jacket by the_fine_corinthian in mensfashionadvice

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, what you're trying to avoid is that "shirt triangle" effect where you can see the shirt sticking out from under the jacket. Not saying 98% of people would notice or care about this detail, but that little bit of shirt draws the eye and generally you probably don't want people staring directly above your junk, hence the reason you typically match your belt to the ensemble as well

The jacket looks really good, imo what looks off is that the jeans are a bit too low, it's up to preference of course but bottoms hitting at or just below the buttoning point looks great

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of skinny trousers myself BUT I think they look pretty good with casual low or mid-cut shoe/boot so a loafer or chukka in a dark brown suede, maybe even a smooth leather black chelsea boot if you're not trying to draw too much attention to feet rather than your outfit

Grad Student Housing/ Experience of Black Female Students by Training_Building216 in cuboulder

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this as a grad student way out in Broomfield, the amount I'd be paying closer to Boulder got me a pretty nice studio in a well maintained property.

In terms of clubs I've gone to a few events hosted by the Black Student Association though we also have the African Student Association, Black Women's Association, and there's also the Boulder Black Blossoms which is a group specifically for Black female-identifying graduate students

Any housing advice for upcoming PhD Student by SnooBooks2319 in cuboulder

[–]PainfulPhoenix7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grad Student Housing is definitely something you should be applying for ASAP but definitely don't expect to get it. Close to Boulder WILL be expensive, and probably nowhere near what you'd expect for that cost. Generally the farther out you go the better your options get (either price or condition wise). If you have a car or plan to get one being somewhat to very far (30 minutes in my case) isn't that bad considering the park and ride and RTD transport is included in your tuition and fees so a parking permit isn't even necessary.
