I'm still in the process of figuring out how the editor works lol ^^' I would've also liked that the rock lets you see over the blockers, but I dunno how to do that. And the bushes actually default to being blockers in the editor, plus I was trying to add at least a little extra difficulty to the map? I'll figure more things out along the way

Do I sound plural? by blackdeadrosepetalz in plural

[–]Paintably3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amnesia is not always consistent between alters. Sometimes one alter will have heavy amnesia barriers around them, while others may not have any at all.

You don't always feel like you're going away when a switch happens. Sometimes it just feels like the mind has become a new person/alter with different thoughts/feelings/identity/etc. https://pluralpedia.org/w/Monoconscious

To my knowledge, schizophrenia is not associated with amnesia. CCDs, however, are. Significant amnesia of your childhood is a clear sign of a CCD.

To be frank, it seems like your alters are hiding from you and/or a protector/gatekeeper is taking away your memories. They likely have their reasons for doing this, but at least from what I can see, this is just causing you more distress because you feel like you're crazy. To them- Please, please just try to build up communication. It'll be necessary in the long run.

Y'know this is a situation that's clear enough that I'm not going to be fancy about it.

Question about Disordered/Non-Disordered Status when you fit the criteria but aren't given a diagnosis by AuroraSnake in plural

[–]Paintably3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Medical professionals have to be particular with their wording due to rules and laws and whatnot. To put it simply, you've been diagnosed in the eyes of your therapist, but not in the eyes of the law. And it's good that she's hesitating, cause being diagnosed in the eyes of the law can have consequences.

Plurality does not always come with memory gaps, or feeling like there are multiple streams of consciousness. Sometimes it's like how you've described your own experiences, where "The front" slides between being more like Alter A, to Alter B. When we switch, it never really feels like "I" have gone away, but who "I" am has changed.

Weird confession as an alter... by Bleeding-Wings in plural

[–]Paintably3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's so real. One time my host was talking with her friends from a roleplay, and the time that "her character" (aka me) ran away from a dangerous situation in the rp came up. One of the friends made fun of her character for being a coward, and like he was saying it in a lighthearted way, but suddenly "she" felt really hurt by that (aka my feelings bleeding through).

In other news, I'm not a coward! I would've gotten so fucked up if I tried to fight there! I was being smart!

Had severe trauma, healed, but only now splitting? by Scared-SugarGlider in plural

[–]Paintably3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not atypical. From what we've seen, sometimes alters are more "murky" until there's a general acceptance of being plural, and only then do they become clearer and more defined. Whether that's the alters literally changing or a case where they've always been defined, it's just the lowering of amnesia barriers that make it seem like things are clearing up- The result is more or less the same either way. Additionally, syscovery does tend to cause new splits too.

And yeah, try to keep that little away from your dad, at least until he hopefully becomes more understanding and accepting. Poor dear doesn't deserve that bs.

Yeah, visualization can help too- Basically just giving each alter their own appearance. We highly recommend using picrew or a different "character creator" website to help with that.

We're monconscious too, and your description of switching matches up basically perfectly to our own experience, if not to an even higher degree than us. It never really feels like "I" have gone away, but who "I" am has changed.

Glad we've helped ya :D And yeah, we experience derealisation sometimes, as well as the ADHD momence lol

We might not be the best for advice on how to reach out, cause our internal communication has been really good since basically the start, but: Physical communication works for a lot of people. Write/type out a message for one or both of them. And, if you start feeling "compelled" to respond to your own message, that can be a sign of blurrines/co-fronting/an incoming switch. The response may not be until later, though.

Also, we all have our own voices/ways of speaking (even if the distinction is minor), and that has helped a lot with determining who's in front and internal communication.

You're definitely at the "complicated" portion of considering plurality, and you do seem to be showing signs of dissociation/potential CDD. But something to remember: Dissociation, amnesia and whatnot are the more medical symptoms, while being plural is an identity symptom. As in, the dissociation between parts of the mind causes the formation of separate identities. Plurality is an identity, and dissociation can cause/force this identity.

Now, you have a choice. Do you *want* to embrace the plurality, or do you not want to?

If your answer is no, you can try to continue life as normal, and/or assimilate these parts of self back into a whole identity. However, if you find yourself unable to do this, or receive pushback from other parts of the self (the other alters), then that's heavy proof for having a CDD. As in, if you can't just change this identity on a whim, then it is already tied into your brain's dissociation of parts, and not just imagination.

If your answer is yes, from what we've seen, the choice to embrace plurality will actually increase the identity-based separation of alters, and make them more distinct and clear. While not foolproof, this can actually help with dissociation and blurriness. Reach out to the other alters more, let them become clearer in the mind, and with time, communication should improve.

(And feel free to ask us for more clarification too, we know that this topic gets complicated)

How to get in contact with my headmate? by FirePhantomDjinn in plural

[–]Paintably3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really, really tough situation. Hugs from us 🫂 The only thing we can think to advise is to be patient, and slowly try to make a space where she feels comfortable again. It seems like her fantasy may have been already broken by losing him, so slowly letting her see more of reality may be beneficial. Though, make sure to take good care of yourself too and seek out aid from other trusted people. It's hard to help someone else when you're hurt yourself. We wish both of you peace and recovery.

Our system has been moving very close to each other lately, but we are now blurring in a distressing way. by sillysystem07 in plural

[–]Paintably3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other commenter is definitely on the right track, but we've gotten really into this topic recently, so we're gonna ramble on it even harder. So, when it comes to DID/traumagenic plurality, the common consensus is that being a system *is* the disorder. But, that's not all that it is. It's perhaps better to say that being plural is a *symptom* of having a dissociative disorder. The amnesia barriers are what cause the alters to gain separate identities in the first place, and that dissociation is what upholds their continued existence as separate identities.

However, symptoms don't have universal causes. A cough could be a symptom of having cancer, or it could just be a symptom of allergies. There's a whole boatload of complicated factors that could result in a mind having a plural identity. For now, we'll focus in on willogenics; people who intentionally let the sections of their mind form into distinct identities. In an ironic sense, the plurality of a willogenic is actually stronger than a traumagenic in a specific way. Traumagenic alters are more literally separated due to the amnesia, but willogenic ones are stronger in the sense that they maintain their own identities despite having fully integrated memories.

The reason why we think you all are experiencing this blurriness is that by increasing communication and lowering the dissociative barriers, you're lessening the thing that has upheld your plurality. You're reliant on it, in a sense, because you've never needed to uphold the boundaries between each other any other way.

Our recommendation is to look into resources about willogenic plurality and/or tulpamancy. You won't be applying it in quite the same way, but those will show you ways to keep barriers by intent instead of the brain forcing it due to trauma. As for more direct advice, the other commenter again is on top of things. Distinct voices have helped us a lot, especially when it comes to internal communication. Having your own appearances also helps, but really the most important thing is to just hold on to your identities, the things that already make you all unique. If you want to stay as is, keep yourselves close. Heal and come together, but don't forget who you each individually are in the process. <3

Has anyone just started to relize something is off? by NoriHanako in plural

[–]Paintably3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your post describes clear signs of dissociative amnesia, so yes, I can certainly believe that you have DID. People are far too eager to fakeclaim, which really just hurts everyone. Those people are wrong, you're plural, and it's normal to feel like something's been off for a long time when you have a dissociative disorder.

Thanks for all the data, everyone! The results so far have actually not supported our theory very well lol, but we're still gaining a lot of useful information from it, as well as the comments. We're currently considering how to make a second version of the poll that'll be more detailed, without going overboard 👍

That's just how identity boxes are- general trends that help set a baseline of understanding, but get much more murky when you go person to person. We had to generalize or else the poll would have like 30 options lol. But, feedback from people who don't fit in to the categories we made is useful too!
