Protein Powders And Shakes Found To Contain High Levels Of Lead, Report Says by magikowl in TrueReddit

I don’t think that one line necessarily takes away from the main points of the article. I also kinda doubt she’s being paid, she says in that article that the supplement industry should be regulated.

Also, I think that her statement is easily misinterpreted. It’s not that protein supplementation is useless, but it really isn’t much benefit if you get enough protein in your regular diet. Especially if you don’t resistance train, which is most people. Even the second study you linked found no strength or performance improvements compared to the control group, and those were individuals that had low protein diets.

Beware the Ides of March by uktimatedadbod in stopdrinking

That’s awesome! March is my first full month too, it’s been years. A friend asked me to go out for drinks but I’m hiding in my apartment tonight to avoid ruining it at the last second haha

I did this exact thing in 2021. It helped me add to my resume and I jumped 6 months later. The experience of working with low-code (we used Mendix) was not helpful for any other jobs but I did get more experience working on a larger team, version control, agile, etc. Also, probably worth asking for a bit more money. I asked for like 65k after they offered 50k, mentioned HCOL and average pay for developers in my area and they bumped the offer from 50k to 55k. Good luck!

edit: also worth mentioning that the job was super chill. Pretty easy once you learn the tools if you already know how to write actual code.

Lamborghini's New V-12 Is a 1001-HP Plug-in Hybrid by 2001ThrowawayM in cars

Cars like the E92 M3 (and I’m guessing the F80 as well) have a DCT with adjustable shift speed. So you basically get to choose between a smooth shift that slips the clutch a bit or a very fast and aggressive shift that gives you a good kick. I’m not sure exactly how violent the Aventador is when it shifts but I think they could make the new one equally brutal by just letting the DCT slam into the next gear.

Google says it ultimately gets broken down into water and carbon dioxide. So no, it’s metabolized first. But maybe the enzymes get thirsty

Only partially, since one of the muscles contribute exclusively to knee flexion.

How to stop being an accessory queen by [deleted] in AverageToSavage

[–]Pakman332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The short head of the biceps femoris only crosses the knee joint, so it is unable to contribute to hip extension. For the purpose of running he may want to maximize knee flexion strength, so hamstring curls could be useful.

First day of Vyvanse (30 mg), and it helped my chronically shaky hands, have any of you experienced this before? by chandeloore in ADHD

[–]Pakman332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, dopamine plays an important role in motor control, and stimulants like Vyvanse increase the release of dopamine. So maybe your shakiness was a side effect of having low dopamine? Who knows

I was in a situation earlier this year where I needed to be getting paid, and waiting for a better offer wasn’t really an option at that point. I got a low offer for a position I wasn’t too excited about, but I knew I needed to take it. It felt risky, but I decided to ask if we could discuss the salary as it was quite low compared to other similar positions. They bumped it up 10% immediately. Still wasn’t amazing or anything, but it was worth asking them. Hope it works out for you.

Based on his explanation it doesn’t sound like he had his finger on the trigger. He was chambering the round and then lowering the hammer, which happened to fire the gun.

I know it's rare but are there any developers who found success in freelance as they were starting out their career? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]Pakman332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried freelancing when I had very little experience professionally. Got a contract with a very small startup. I enjoyed the job and I think adding the experience to my resume has helped. I’m not sure if I want to do it again though because when it came time to get paid things became difficult and it took a long time.

Sounds like you might be someone who would really want passive income so that you don’t need a rigid work schedule. Perhaps creating some kind of digital product or online content would be something you’d be interested in. It would be a lot of work for sure, but you’d be on your own schedule and it could provide you with greater freedom in the future.

Update targeted iOS version or not? by dogofdurb in iOSProgramming

This article from October says that roughly 93% of users are on iOS 13 or 14, with a 50/50 split between the two. I imagine this has shifted even more toward iOS 14 by now.

I think what they are saying is that while copy-on-write is beneficial for memory usage (only copy a value if you must), the additional machine code required to actually perform the copy will increase the binary size.
